From the Kinky Friedman for Gov (of Texas) website:

Q: What is Kinky's position on gay marriage?
A: Kinky supports gay marriage and equal rights for homosexuals. He believes that the constitution protects everyone. As he says, "I believe love is bigger than government. And besides, they have a right to be as miserable as the rest of us."

I've been a Kinky Friedman fan for more than 30 years. He'd get my vote! ;)

Chris

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Yes, Kinky...everyone.

I'm not following you... Are you saying that the majority ISN'T protected? The measure of a government's commitment to liberty is how it treats those that disagree with the majority view.

By respecting it, not by catering to it.

Tyranny of the minority is just as bad as the tyranny of the majority.

Which is ultimately a matter of point of view. You'll find a great many of the truths we cling to are greatly dependent upon our point of view.

And so... Your point of view, which disapproves of the minority opinion really shouldn't be used as the litmus test, wouldn't you agree? Wow. Of course you won't agree. That's the problem, isn't it?

When did I say it should be used as the litmus test?

Where are you getting this?

So you have no problem with parades and TV shows that espouse a different view than you? Excellent. Glad to know I misread you.

From what I've read about them, probably not.

Is it? Is it the *only* measure? Is it the most important measure? Or did you *mean* to leave out the rest of it? Do you even know what the rest of it is?

You can walk into a room full of people and disagree with them, making you the minority. They can treat you just fine - that doesn't mean they have to give your viewpoint any credibility, or accomodate your viewpoint in any way.

Tyranny of the minority is just as bad as the tyranny of the majority.

But much, much less common. Despite what I've heard some people claim, being a white middle class male is actually pretty good.

Speak for yourself. The oppression I experience is almost unendurable. Perhaps you intended to say single white middle class male.
