real interesting.. in our metro we already have a fairly large Latino population. They get along great with the blacks. Lots of intermarriage in one older established area (KCK for Deb) i like to see people working anyway.. they shouldn't be standing in line for services... and really, there is plenty of work to go around. |

While maybe understandable, it's sad that this has become an issue of race. |

Anyone else see the irony? I didn't, as when it slapped me across the face I saw stars instead.
Okay, I'll accept the gripe about taking jobs. BUT we should probably look into this before making kneejerk claims, shouldn't we? Is this really true? It's a legitimate subject to study, but baseless claims don't do anyone any good. As for this "piggybacking off the strides made during the civil rights movement", I think Dr. King would want to spank the behinds of anyone who said this. So, did they want civil rights for black people only? Equality, except for the immigrants? Those who make this argument should more closely examine that part of history they're pointing to. I don't even know if they have a case here, though, because it's largely a legal matter, not a civil rights matter. My goodness. |

It's not an issue of race, it's an issue of class. Race is infused since it is one of the few sure-fire attention getters.... |

I agree. The sad thing is that it's in danger of getting hijacked by people with a racial axe to grind. |
