A horse produces about 50lb. of "fertilizer" a day. Talk about recycling? Also, my favorite is when you're cleaning that rear hoof - the tail rises - well, you know the rest. |

Yes, it's a running french braid. The longer mane comes from the Lusitano side, and so I've kept it that way (keeps the flies off in the summer) but I have to braid it up when I ride, or my fingers and reins get all tangled up in it. Jodi

"1/8 Quarter Horse"... does that make him a 1/32 Horse? Whatever the percentages, he's a very handsome horse, jodi - congrats! |

Quarterhorse for common sense Lusitano for great looks Thoroughbred for speed and power and Oldenburg for conformation, size and strength. Sounds good to me! |

Why the flash? My oldest daughter is now riding a 17h Oldenberg - likes to put her tongue out while cantoring so she has a flash on her (I'm referring to the horse in case there is any confusion in the peanut gallery). Same problem? ![]() |

It's considered appropriate attire for a dressage horse. I think once you are at the level that requires a double bridle, it helps hold the curb bit in place, or something like that. I put it on from the beginning, so they get used to wearing it. Jodi

I used to ride using one of these things:![]() A Western sidepull. I used to freak everybody out, for I was at a Class A h/j place. About 60% of the time, I'd go English with a full cheek or D-ring snaffle. But when I went Western (which i did when we'd take a ride off the farm and down the street), I'd put that sidepull on him. It's sort of like a hackamore, but no pressure. Just a gentle pulll to point his nose where I wanted to go. Actually, didn't even need that. Simon was so good, I just had to look, and he'd go there. A remarkable relationship - horse and rider, eh? |

LWP - He's a young horse, so he's really very green. He's just getting balanced enough to canter some circles without running me into the wall...
