If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
|
Now that would take a fast shutter and some really fast film. Maybe AS2million. |

HOLY CARP!!!

Very irresponsible to fly that fast that low. Innocent people could get killed. Pragmatic objection aside, can some one please explain to me what they find "cool" about the photo? May be there is something there that is significant to you that I failed to notice or to appreciate. Thanks.

The fact that the shockwave upon reaching Mach 1 is forming behind the jet, even extending to the water. |

Ax, the maneuver is called a "sneak pass", flown at 50 feet above the water and just under 700 mph by the lead pilot. They are always very careful to ensure that there is sufficient clear area around where the planes fly to prevent accidents. The boats in the background look closer than they actually are because of foreshortening. George, the condensation is due to the Prandtl-Glauert singularity and is not necessarily due to the "shockwave" of breaking the sound barrier; it can happen at speeds lower than (but not much lower than) Mach 1. The Blue Angels do not break the sound barrier during performances, though the F-18's they fly are more than capable of doing so. In fact, in many airshows they are not permitted to fly faster than 500 mph. |

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't. - P.G. Wodehouse | |

Air Force pilots can do the same thing, albeit maybe not quite so low. With a "Bones". Fully loaded. At night. And in the not so fast category, greenie weenies can do the same with a Pave Low.... |

1. Coz he's 50 feet above the ocean cruising close to Mach 1. 2. The sailboats wouldn't have heard him coming. 3. It's a cool plane. and, 4. You know he pulled back on the stick right after the photo was taken, going vertical, started injecting fuel into the exhaust stream (commonly referred to a "lighting the afterburners"), and accelerated upwards leaving an earsplitting roar for those below him, topping out at 50,000 feet - for no other reason than "it was fun". ![]() Ladies - never fall in love with a fly boy, coz you'll always be #2. ![]() |
