I Owe It All To John D'Oh
For those medical professionals in the audience:

The following was posted over at WTF by one of the regulars over there. For those who don't know her, she's a concert pianist, totally non-controversial ... and pregnant.

Since there are more doctors over here more frequently, and since she's worried and can't get in touch with her doctor until Tuesday, I thought I'd cross-post over here, to see if anyone has anything useful that I can pass back to her.

-------------

Over the last several weeks [the baby] has been very active, kicking around most of the day, every day. But over the last 2-3 days I have only felt her kick feebly a couple of times. The last time was yesterday morning, so it's been 24 hours. My Mayo Pregnancy guide says that if I am beyond 22 weeks and notice any major changes or stopping in kicking patterns for over 24 hours I should contact my doctor.

I did catch a cold about 3 days ago. No fever but got a cough, stuffed nose and overall icky feeling. I feel fine today though.

Am I getting worried over nothing?

------------

Thanks. Reassuring pregnant woman is high on my priority scale.

Did you know that Larry was the one who originally contacted her, and asker her to paricipate on TOCR?

Don't most doctors have a nights and weekends emergency number to call (especially as babies never arrive between 9 and 5, M-F)? If so, I'd call it for peace of mind. I've never hesitated to call on weekends if my kids are out of sorts.

Quirt,

Given women's intuition, I would gamble to say if she feels something is up, go to the doctor. Is it her first pregancy? Has she had any issues during the pregnancy?

If she can't reach her doctor, she should go to the ER.

It may be nothing, but she needs to know for sure that it is nothing.

Just got off the phone with my wife -- she's at work right now. She's an RN, and she works in the High Risk OB department (pregnant women with pregnancy/health issues) of a pretty good sized university hospital. She's also worked labor and delivery for several years.

When I read the symptoms to her, she said that she should contact her doctor immediately. She needs to get professional attention as soon as possible.

Speaking on my own now -- she should immediately contact her doctor, the labor and deliver department of her local hospital, or the ER there -- someone as soon as possible.

I was happy to read on WTF that everything is fine now. :)
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to drop in and give you a very heartfelt thanks for all your advice and efforts regarding my scare. As it turns out, after 24 hours of no movement baby Elenette came back in full force yesterday a few hours after I posted my worry. So I think everything is ok. I am planning to keep a record of her movements from now on so I get better acquainted with any patterns she has. Your concern really touched me.

Thank you.

That is great news - I used to worry every day until the little blighter did his regular somersault routines. I'm glad everything's OK. :)
