ZOOOOOM!

I read this article once about how capitalism works. Our employment structure is pretty much "survival of the fittest", in that the best-qualified person gets the job. However, with companies being overtaken, work plans constantly shifting to keep up with societal changes, or businesses just plain going belly-up, there's a whole lot of turnover with jobs. The article said the key, is to have a broad range of skills that are in high demand to make sure you're still marketable, and can move around quickly. That way you're not caught without an umbrella when it rains down pink slips. But is this really the case? No way, Jose! (Kenny, tell Jose "no way" for me.) Let's say I didn't have a full-time job. Suppose I had a series of reliable, but only seasonal part-time jobs to supply my income. For example, I could work at the Post Office in the summer when they need the extra help, and at a winter resort later on in the year. If I had this routine for 5 or even 10 years, it would still "look bad" on a job application, methinks. Patchy work history. Nevermind working two different trades in the same year and having diverse skills, that's no good. You didn't work anywhere from August to September. Anyone else see this as kind of a double standard? Or is this not the case? |

you could put your profession down as seasonal vagabond and see how far that carries you. |
