Finally
Did anyone watch this guy the other night? I really don't get the point of his stunts. Even his "magic" (like the levitation) was pretty cheesy.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I missed it -- what happened? Did he stay submerged for a week, and then hold his breath for nine minutes while escaping?

I saw it in the news too. Still shaking my head to think that he figured he could grow gills in just a week. What does he think evolution is- magic or something?

Who cares?

I was two blocks away last sunday, and I didn't bother to walk over to see him. I guess I don't.
Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

HOLY CARP!!!
I had to laugh, as they were dragging his sorry rear end out of the tank and down the stairs, the announcer said said something like, "Well, he didn't break the record, but after giving such a valiant effort, there's no question, no one can say he really failed," Fourteen and I both blurted out in unison, "I can!"

I went to the Philharmonic last Thursday so I saw him but I wouldn't have gone out of my way to do so.

IMO, he should have done the thing nekked! Would have much more interesting! ;)

I read this about him at a blog called "Proceed at your own risk" :

"Assuming David Blaine emerges alive today from his "human aquarium" it's worth noting why he did it, something that has been missing from any of the news and blogosphere coverage I've read thus far.

Blaine is not just crazy, he's Jew crazy. Blaine has implied that his acts of self-inflicted physical deprivation serve two purposes.

He's been pretty clear about the first purpose, when asked: whether he's buried alive, frozen in ice, or suspended over the Thames, the purpose is to pay tribute to those who endured the privations of the Holocaust. In fact, he has "Survival in Auschwitz" author Primo Levi's prisoner number tattooed on his arm.

But he's even crazier than that. His second "implied" purpose is that he may believe himself to be a modern-day prophet of the Biblical prophet sort.

In his own words: "There is nothing the body suffers the soul may not prophet [the spelling is his] from. A prophet is someone who can state briefly what we already know."

Ezekial Like I said, a crazy Jew. I just thought you should know in case he starts babbling about burning bushes, climbing ladders to heaven and wrestling angels.

Some less crazy Jews have suggested that his visions and self-proclaimed candidacy for Biblical prophet may have less to do with our father in heaven than with reduced flow of oxygen to the brain during these various Holocaust memorial stunts. But Jews have always been skeptical and argumentative about their prophets.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Took the M104 bus on Sunday and saw him in the tank from the window. It's very very exciting to live in NYC. Very exciting.

I think he gets millions of dollars in sponsorships to do these stunts. Sure beats working for a living.

I like all his silly stunts and don't care how ridiculous they are. They bring a bit of colour into the world. I was always under the impression the whole thing is as much about people's reactions to what he's doing as much as the spectacle itself. Good stuff!
How now, brown cow.
