ooooooooh! Excellent suggestion, Quirt!

It really isn't time consuming. I rarely have had to moderate at all. It's mostly the youngins I've had to moderate anyway. Maybe, she could relate better to them.

I also would like to nominate someone, although, he probably doesn't want it. I think he'd be excellent though.

I nominate John D'Oh.

Sorry John. :lol2:

It was a clever ruse to ensure that no one ever suggested that I moderate.

Not sure that was necessary, Q.

But since I am such a bully, I probably am safe as well. :lol2:

between KB and you and John D'oh I'd have to assume we're actively attempting to get the most sensitive people in the moderating chair rather than the least!

Dol would be good. 89th would be good. I say we have several moderators. (WTF has a good model for this.)
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I don't think sensitivity is a bad thing in a moderator.

It's hurt me because I'm the only moderator here. The burden is too big and I have personal issues that I'm dealing with. I have a lot of stress in my life right now. And when I get stressed, I get emotional. I'm old enough to know that.

Sensitivity and especially empathy could be qualities in a moderator if they remain strong.

Moderating the new coffee room is just not that important or weighty a job.

What happened to Mr and Mrs KB?

I think that moderators should be anonymous.

Only a safety issue existed.

And that was what I was primarily concerned about. MP's safety.

It would be nice if he had some volunteers!

Well you know I'm always here. I wouldn't mind being a moderator, if you all trusted my judgement enough.

Bottom line is this...I wouldn't do anything unless a thread was reported to me. Then, I would act accordingly.

Peggy, my offer is here if you need some help (or a replacement!).

You want 89th as moderator?????  :hair:

That's why I thought the moderation chore should rotate... ;)

(Just pulling your chain, 89 :) ).

Well you know I'm the last person to get offended with anything, so that wouldn't be a problem.

I'd be willing to do it in the evenings, but not from work, i.e. in the daytime. It's hard to believe, but I'm actually trying to stop posting during the day. I also don't think I'd be willing to do it if I'm the only mod. since I'm not always around (again, hard to believe based on the number of my posts) and therefore wouldn't be able to do a very good job.

If it was me and 89th, we could get into some really nasty battles, and nobody would be able to do anything about it.

I'm also a lot less sensitive than I sometimes appear. I would actually quite enjoy taking on a couple of people here who shall remain anonymous.

I promise that I will only ever use my powers for evil. There are far too many good people here already, and I strongly believe in balance.

If you're going to be a moderator, you shouldn't "take on" anyone. I wouldn't want to see the place end up a one way street like WTF is.

Before we go jumping into the unknown, is there anyone out there who really doesn't want me to moderate? Anyone who isn't a troll, that is. I'd rather know now rather than find out later, unless of course there's a good benefits package.

just don't moderate yourself, John. That would be tragic.

Larry - you missed the wink. I don't want to take on anyone who isn't an obvious troll, and I'll only ever be my usual charming, polite self. I don't want this place to change, I think it's fantastic. If anything, the chances are I won't step in quickly enough. I was going to say I'll be too liberal, but I thought better of it. :D

I still think Dol would be best. Someone who is controversial or confrontational is a poor choice. 89th, you have to admit, you can be both of those, from time to time. And John, I think the weight of moderator-ship would have a negative effect on your posts; the greater good suggests that you stay as you are.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

Actually, that's why I'm reluctant to do it, in case I feel that moderating clashes with my inate stupidity. I get more pleasure out of posting nonsense here than out of almost anything else I do. Sad, but true.

Edit - I'm not volunteering because I want to do it, but because somebody needs to. If there's anybody out there daft enough to want to do it, please speak now so that I can go back to holding my piece.

I think most of what the moderator does here in chasing off trolls, sock puppets, etc.could be done by anyone. It's that remaining bit where someone who is a mamber of this online community steps across a boundary either deliberately or inadvertently where the difficult calls must be made. The balls in the dirt are easy for the umpire, it's those ones right at the knees that make the job tough.

I rather like the idea of opening up the moderator role to the top of the poster list. These are all people with a significant interest in TNCR and a willingness to invest the time to be here with some frequency. I'm at least happy to see a couple of those people stepping forward as voluteers. I also favor the keeping of individual moderating decisions anonymous within that group. If they can't manage to work cooperatively with each other, we can all witness the slaying of Caesar by Brutus here in the forums and decide what to try next.
