Only a safety issue existed.

And that was what I was primarily concerned about. MP's safety.

It would be nice if he had some volunteers!

I honestly would volunteer but I think I'd feel too self-conscious to post really stupid stuff anymore, and without really stupid stuff I wouldn't want to post at all.

(Yes, I know this sounds like I'm campaigning - vote for me and I'll stop posting! :P )

That was a pretty stupid thing to say.

However, I understood, and I agree.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

George, that post was a riddle wrapped up in an insult inside an enigma.

When there was the big dust-up back in PW, it seems like we all had some good ideas about what moderation was and wasn't, and how it might be set up.

I've often thought that there are just a few rules about moderation. The main one is that the moderator's decision is final. When it isn't, it seems that the moderation spawns all sorts of additional threads about the moderator: too harsh, too lenient, obviously biassed, blah blah blah. The act of moderating becomes a bigger battle than the original post.

For that reason, I also think the moderator should be anonymous.

Pragmatically, I think it's useful to have a few moderators, so there's a better chance that someone is around if something truly yucko gets posted. It has happened, fortunately not very often.

I wonder what would happen if anyone passing a particular post count becomes a potential moderator, and the moderator role is rotated? It just seems that if someone is posting a ton, they should perhaps take up some of the maintenance chores.

Just some ideas.

You want 89th as moderator????? :hair:

(Just kidding, he'd probably be quite good at it)

Peggy - could you estimate how much time is actually involved?

It would be much easier if there was more than one moderator.

With jgoo so busy and KlavierBauer now gone, it's been left up to me. And, believe me, it's a burden.

I don't feel under appreciated and I don't mind not being anonymous. I disagree and don't think a moderator should be anonymous.

I do agree that once an action is taken it should be final. Which is what I've tried to do.

But, it's too much of a burden to be the only one.

When I say I'm too sensitive, I don't mean to say my feelings get hurt. I mean, I feel too strongly about certain things. I take all my moderating actions very much to heart. I don't enjoy delving into other people's posts.

Just voicing my thoughts.

Sorry, John, our posts crossed in cyberspace.

I don't think time would be the problem. We're all here often enough. I don't read every thread or participate in every thread. Today I've been on much more than I usually am. It's not about time.

I think your here more often than I am.

Rotating? Oh man!

:hair:

Power over people is very anti-Kenny.
If it rotates I'll start a poll every time a decision is needed.

I'd volunteer, butmy schedule's kind of erratic now. I can be here all day for a week, but then not be back for another two weeks. Tell you what Peggy, I'd gladly be a deputy to your Sherriff, thereby taking some of the pressure off of you, but with the TNCR still benefitting from your sensible decisions.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Frankly, anyone with a high post count should be automatically disqualified.

It was a clever ruse to ensure that no one ever suggested that I moderate.

It's certainly a better approach than allowing people to put their own names forward, Peggy.

Or, we could go for nominations. I'll start the ball rolling, I nominate Dol.
