Well that's reasonable, I guess.

We had a guy in our hall who would bang on his guitar at horrible hours (literally, he would bang on it. He wouldn't play, he would just hit the strings with random projectiles. That's the only way you could produce that noise coming from his room).

We didn't tell our RA, mind you, as it's against the "guy's code of ethics" to bring "authorities" into a dispute. We found alternative means to vent our frustrations.

poor guitar!

i don't care about a stupid code of ethics (of course, i'm not a guy, so it doesn't apply....). if it's loud and unreasonable (it was at about 12:30 am) i'm going to the RA if my attempts fail. that's what they're there for. thank god i don't have to deal with a dorm next year. i don't think i could handle it.
And how are you today?

Eh, he got the message, and started playing outside more often. And he didn't get written up. Best not to bring in others into a dispute unless it's required. Granted, we did more than have a conversation with the guy, but I think this is the right way to go about issues between others.

um, this guy didn't get written up either....that's pretty crazy if you get written up because of one complaint. and it was required. i had put up with it for over 6 months. it had to stop.
And how are you today?

RA's can be crazy like that, you never know. We had a couple who would do that very thing. Going over someone's head, in general, should be avoided is all I'm saying.

The guy in the room next to me at the dorm was a drummer, even at 1:00 in the morning.

I learned to live with it.

How to deal with issues in dorms:

1) Make friends with theatre technicians or (if all else fails) engineers. They have access to cool stuff, and are eager to use it for any reason. They also know how to pick locks.

2) Pick a target early in the year. Someone who is annoying everyone with their behaviour.

3) Play a really evil practical joke on them to get them back - and make sure that you publicize exactly why it's happened. And let the rumour mill spread around who did it, but deny it vehemently if asked.

4) If you have a particularly dim-witted dorm, you may have to do it a couple times.

5) Next time any annoying behaviour starts, get a group together, knock on the door, and politely ask them to stop. This works best if you just happen to be carrying an assortment of tools and such.

Not that I would ever resort to these tactics.

Or make friends with someone who takes spite and practical jokes to a whole new level.
