I Owe It All To John D'Oh
|
I read today that between 50,000 and 100,000 people die each year in this country from medical mistakes. That would be more than are killed in car accidents, more than die from breast cancer. And that estimate comes from .... the Institute of Medicine, which is part of the National Academy of Sciences. I always knew that George was trying to kill me, but I didn't know he had it in for everyone else, too. |
| It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010. | |

I am the grey one

Since the number of people who die each year from firearms accidents are far less maybe he should be using that .45 after all. |

HOLY CARP!!!
|
Speaking of medical mistakes. I ran out of my heart pills, Digoxin, so I called my mail order pharmacy. They said I should have plenty left. I've been taking 1.5 tablets for 10 years, and fortunately continued to do so till I made this call. I did not read the quantity on the Rx lable or count the pills. Turns out my doctor wrote the last Rx for 1 pill. An error, his fault. When I called my Dr. office the receptionist looked up my chart and told me I told them on the phone that I take 1.5 tabs, but the Dr. made a mistake and wrote the RX for only one tab. Later that day their nurse called me back and said they sent in the correct Rx. She was VERY careful with her words. I've known her for 15 years and this is VERY out of character for her. I continued to talk to her and tell her you shouldn't ask the patient what the dosage is when they call you to get refills, you should always look it up. She was silent. Very eerie. |

Finally

Damn! And I always thought that I was being more subtle than that! Interesting numbers, of course. Can you point us to the article? I'd be curious as to how things break down. 1) Physicians 2) Pharmacies 3) Nurses 4) Other caregivers 5) Hospitals screwing things up. Etc. |
