HOLY CARP!!!

My mom was just showing me an article in some popular magazine she reads. The journalists were putting price tags on actors, estimating how much each is "worth" to be in a movie. Will Smith topped them all at $25,000,000. The next article was about Tom Cruise, and mentioned his share of the dough from the first Mission Impossible movie: $100,000,000. Why do actors get so much money? There was a caption that mentioned that one particular movie didn't gross very much money - only $6,000,000. I actually laughed at that, until my mom pointed out that the lead actress was supposed to be paid $12,000,000. That's bad news for the producers. I wonder how she would feel if she had to take only $500,000 for that one movie - 10 x what many teachers earn in a year. Only in America...

i wonder if there are more actors and highpaid sportsplayers than the CEOs America is so quick to attack because of earnings. i wonder if the liberal Hollywood set would reduce their income to make it more fair for the lowly masses. |

Actors don't actually get that much money. If you've seen Tom Cruise or Will Smith perform you'll know what I mean. |

Weird that you should bring this up actually. I was just watching 'Young sexy and rich' on E4 (yes, my life really is that sad) and the Olson Twins were on. They're net worth is 500 million dollors ( ).What makes these people worthy of so much money? I don't get it? ![]() Yes, they deserve a decent salary and what not, but this is just silly money. x |

PJ, I get Entertainment Weekly as well...it's the magazine your mom was reading. I read it last night before bed, and was surprised by a few numbers. But you have to remember with Tom Cruise, his 100 mil includes his %, the fact that he's the producer of the Mission Impossible movies, etc...and producers and exec producers get the most from a movie, more than anyone. The article was very good and comprehensive...for example, Ben Stiller in 2004 is worth $20 million per movie...since his movies averaged $185 million, which is unrivaled. It's all business. If an actor's presence in a film will almost guarantee a 100+ million box office return, then they'll get paid accordingly. Like Will Smith. Here's the article online: http://www.ew.com/ew/home/0,11146,,00.html |

It's all business. They get paid so much, because they bring so much money in. They're just lucky! |

We could always tax anyone who earned more than 10 million a year up the wazoo.... Yes, yes, I know, that would just drive the really gifted people away and demotivate people such as Will Smith and Tom Cruise from working so enormously hard. |
