HOLY CARP!!!
Hi 54, welcome.

Some info about me, so you can try to make sense out of my posts here:

I'm an architect in private practice in the US Midwest, but my roots are in the Pittsburgh area. I'm married and have two girls, ages 14 and 10. I'm also studying to become a pastor in my spare time, so a lot of my serious posts here will deal with architecture or Christianity, and occasionally both at the same time. I'm a conservative in Christianity and politics, but I support the concept of gay marriage and ordination of gay clergy who are either celibate singles or in committed relationship. I agree that we need to strengthen border security, even building a wall, and I support the Minutemen along our southern border - but I still have a couple friends here in town that I met in Honduras, who are in the country illegally, and whom I take out for dinner and a few beers once a month or so. In other words, I tick off and confuse people on both sides of the political and religious spectrum. I also trek off to Central America once a year to provide volunteer assistance at an orphanage that's home to 25 kids with AIDS, so you'll hear me ramble about that, too.

I took piano lessons as an adult beginner for several years, and became an average mediocre/intermediate piano player, before time constraints forced me to give it up to pursue other callings (see above). I also learned a lot about piano construction by very amateurishly refurbishing an old upright piano by myself, which I documented step by step on a now defunct website that a few folks here still probably remember. During that time, I became a regular at the rec.music.makers.piano Usenet newsgroup (rmmp), then Piano World, and now here. I like it here; it's comfortable, especially on a night like this - after helping to kick a keg of Dos Equis at a day-late Cinco de Mayo block party.

So, now you know a bit about me. Tell us all about yourself. Inquiring minds want to know...

Hi S54, and welcome.

Since everyone's giving their potted biographies, here's mine. I'm an idiot. That's probably all you need to know. When pressed, I'll admit to being small but perfectly formed, and to like a drink as much as the next man. Unfortunately the next man is either Oliver Reed or the Ayatollah Khomeini, so I'm a bit mixed up, as well as next to two dead people. On Wednesdays I go shopping, and have buttered scones for tea.

It's a bit silly here sometimes, but it sure is fun.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Didn't cross my mind...by now that you mention it....

uh... let's see... I work in the corporate world, but am compensated very well, so I take the b.s. (secretary).

As for piana - I play purely by ear (PianogMagic is my classroom). I'm a newbie pianist :baby: - 7 months, actually. I love music and it was a natural thing for me to take up this instrument.

You all sound interesting. Thank you for the warm welcome. I hope I didn't come off slutty, because I'm not. Nite! :fallenhalo:

Hi 54! Or is it Mo? What nickname do you want to be called by?

Anyway, a little about me?

I'm a 24 year old guy, live in Maryland, and am a Christian first, American second, and Conservative third. Sometimes I mix those around though, just to keep people on their toes! :sombrero:

I have very strong opinions, but enjoy learning from others. If you met me in person (or in a PM), I'm sure we'd get along! :)

As you can see, I like using smilies...sometimes I only have a post with a smilie and no content. :P And I'm also in here most of the day, as I check in during work a lot...otherwise I might lose my mind with clients I work with.

Just to confuse you:

I'm Kenny's boyfriend, John D'Oh's son, George's son-in-law, Improv and Plays' son-in-law, MP's husband, Dol's dream-date, and Aqua's roommate.

Oh, and only one of those is actually true...

Oh sorry, did I say that out loud? Damn gatekeeper out on another coffee break, I suspect ;)

My name is Sharon as well, though most people here just call me Dol. I'm an unrepentant dork. I teach at a local elementary school and I talk about that quite a bit here. I have an adorable son named Liam (I talk about him a lot as well), and my life has been full of ups and downs over the past year (you guessed it - I talk about that too). I'm a very left leaning liberal, Canadian, and nowhere near as witty as John D'Oh. But then again, I'm nowhere near as irritating as 89th, so I take the good with the bad.

Ok, here's a little about me:

I am Sam. I'm an African explorer - not too many people know that about me, but I actually have been there many times during the summers to photograph the wildlife, do community service work in Darfur, and work with some scientists on gorilla research.

In my spare time, I study music, marine biology, and underwater basketweaving at the local university. I've got a 4.0 GPA - something else a lot of people don't know about me, because I spend most of my time recruiting converts for the local synagogue.

I tried to climb Mount Everest a few years back, but the rest of my team bailed out at the last minute, and after a few miles on my own I decided to turn back as well. That was my spring break, senior year of high school, and since I didn't get to the top of Everest, I decided to go to the Bahamas instead and work at an internationally funded health clinic for the native peoples. I was nominated 'worker of the year', and got to meet the chief of one of the native tribes. Incidentally, he's Jewish, so we got along really well.

On the music scene, I've just come back from a tour of Australia. I did some gigs with Byron Janis and Itshak Perlman; some 2-piano music, and the Brahms Violin Sonatas - wonderful music. Byron's actually a really nice guy, and Itsy's just such a terrific musician. I even got to play an encore at one of the concerts: Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto, arranged for solo piano by Gyorgy Ligeti.

Actually, I'm just some poor shmo from America. I'm currently learning how to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the piano. That and the Revolutionary Etude.

I'm a music history major at university, and my favorite composers are Bach, Bartok, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. Tchaikovsky and Brahms are good, too.

I haven't climbed Mount Everest or worked for the people in Darfur, but I do spend a lot of time educating the masses here and at PW. :whome:

I'm Optimistic.

I teach Spanish in South Jersey right now, but am moving to the D.C. area in July and beginning grad. school in the fall.

I'm outdoorsy and love music.

I've played piano in the past and plan on picking it up again later in life, but as for right now, I'm a big phat phony hanging out on the "piano forum." -_-
