My car would make smoke pour out of that thing.

Yeah, easy for you to say, Kenny. If I couldn't drive in the rain (or snow), my car would be useless half the year here in Pittsburgh.

HOLY CARP!!!
I was joking.
(I think you guys don't know how most of what I post here is stuff that I find funny, outrageous or quirky.)
I am NOT a serious, or grouchy person.

BTW it was very interesting to read about how energy is consumed when a tire lifts all that water 4 feet into the air.

I never thought about it but it makes sense.
You can't get something for nothing.
Continusouly throwing all that water into the air IS work.

Not to mention how much energy it takes pushing the vehicle through water standing on the road. Easily noticed by the action the vehicle tries to take if only 1 wheel goes through standing water.

I just had an idea.

An air compressor could blow the water out of the way right in front of each tire.
Sure, it would be worthless for deep puddles or heavy downpours but for many of the rain miles the energy it uses may be less than the energy it saves.

Hmm.

It takes energy to compress the air.

No duh.

That's why I wrote "the energy it uses may be less than the energy it saves."

Maybe a very high energy laser could be fitted to the car, which would instantly vapourise all the water in front of the car. A side benefit to the increased mileage efficiency would be the automatic disabling of speed cameras, police radar, policemen, cyclists, people driving at a steady 56 mph in the middle lane, people with better cars than me, and so forth. Come to think of it, I'd probably just keep the death-star technology switched on the whole damn time.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

It takes so much energy to move the water whether you do it with your tires or compressed air. I can't imagine there would be any savings given the inefficiencies in transferring energy from the motor to the compressed air.

John, you are my kind of guy. :thumb:
In a hunting and fishing kind of way. -_-

JB, I hear ya.
But the water only has to be moved 4 inches to the side instead of 4 feet up, against gravity.
The compressor would have to do a tiny fraction of the work that the tire is doing on the water.

Who knows.
Just an idea.
Perhaps one good enough to look into.

Hover cars, that's what we need - then we can just glide over the water. Hmm....come to think of it, we wouldn't need roads anymore and that would save all the oil, concrete and energy that goes into building them.
