Formula 1: Michael Schumacher today gained his 66th career pole position at Imola, ironically breaking the last remaining F1 record at the circuit it was last set in 1994 by Ayrton Senna, who died in the race the following day. Schumacher has now obtained more wins, championship titles, poles and points than any other driver in history. With a salary of over $50 million a year, and a whole ton of cash from advertising, he's also almost certainly racked up a larger bank account than any driver in history. I've been a huge fan of Schumacher ever since I saw him win for the first time at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium in the rain in 1991. It was obvious he was enormously gifted then, and his results reflect that talent, combined with a level of work and ruthlessness which has occasionally got him into trouble with race authorities, drivers and fans. C'est la guerre, baby. |
