apparently i have a couple viruses i got the other day.. AVG says they are isolated in a vault (whatever that means) -

should i pay to have them removed..? i don't think i can do it myself.. they don't seem to have any noticeable affect on performance.

Is that the PC term for children these days? *Viruses*??? Actually, it fits. :D

Yeah, I use a program as well - Symantec/Norton - and it works well, too.

It sounds like it says your viruses are "in a vault" which sounds like they are "quarantined", which means they don't pose a threat right now. I wouldn't get them professionally removed, however I try to "delete" them from the quarantine...they should give you the option somewhere. Then update your virus definitions and scan again....

Just my $0.02

Well, if your anti-virus program caught it, you're not really infected. It detected the virus and locked it away so it can't do any harm. Depending on the software, there usually is a way to delete the isolated offender, but how to do that varies from program to program. Usually you would open your anti-virus software, look for the quarantine section, and delete anything that has been quarantined.

You should be able to delete quarantined files using an option in your anti virus software.

What I find alarming is that everyone thinks that because they are using an anti virus program that they are safe. I'm not sure where the fine line between "virus" and "spyware" is, but spyware can possibly do you more damage than a virus. Try downloading and running the free versions of spybot, ad aware and spyware doctor - you'll be amazed at what they find on your pc. Paying the $29 for the full version of spyware doctor is worthwhile.

You might also install the free copy of zonealarm (firewall) on all computers - it at least asks you for permission before a new program is allowed to send out to the internet, and lets you control which programs can access the internet or an internal network.

My 2 cents for safer surfing!

if you do not need the files that are infected, just delete them.
Open the 'Virus Vault' from the AVG Control Center, then delete the files that show up in the file list.
