I live in an old neighborhood. Sidewalks don't last forever. Yesterday they removed the old sidewalk along the whole block, but also removed my PVC lawn sprinkler pipes that ran against the sidewalk. This is understandable since they have to build the wooden forms before they pour the new concrete. But do you expect they will just install new PVC pipes to restore my sprinkler system to its former glory at their expense (my tax dollars) ? And I also noticed a copper water pipe was on the surface and fully exposed that used to run under, and perpendicular to, the old sidewalk. It brought water from the street to my house. I was surprised that whoever installed it didn't bury it deeper. the city has not communicated with me about any of this. Do you expect the city is going to direct me to get this copper water pipe burried deeper? BTW the city did not warn us they were doing any of this work. No letters or anything.

That sucks Kenny...they should have definitely told you and they SHOULD definitely put everything back the way that it was...including your PVC pipes. |

Not so, 89th. The city has an easement for the sidewalk. I don't think they are responsible for replacing your property placed in it. Kenny, when you replace the pipes, which is not a big deal, can you move them 6" - 12 " back into your yard? |

Mik I expect you are right. Whatever sucks more is usually right. ![]() All these pipes were put in before I bought the house in 1999, but who gives a crap about that?! It's my problem now.

Kenny, PVC pipe is exceptionally easy to work with. You should be able to replace it, no sweat. If you were thinking about rewiring your house, this will be a breeze. I am so lucky today as to be filling in a couple woodpecker holes in my house that the sparrows have decided to nest in. So, not only do I feed the birds, I also evict them. |

This may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. In this area, sidewalks are generally the property owner's responsibility to clear of snow and ice, maintain, and replace if necessary. If they must be disturbed for other purposes such as utility work, then the party removing them is obligated to restore them. You may want to check with your local authorities to determine what is going on. Big Al |

that sucks, Kenny. I'm really suprised that they didn't even inform the homeowners before they did the work. Guess they were trying to avoid a bunch of complaints, which they would certainly have got! I can sympathize, we are getting water meters this year, (we get to pay several hundred dollars for installation), and it turns out our water connection is under our driveway, which the previous owner put in. Guess who gets to pay to have it dug up. |

The city tore a chunk of my sprinkler system up when they were digging in my yard hooking the people across the street up to the water system. they replaced it without any hassles. |
