Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D | |

It is interesting to me that Bush's greatest failure is the Iraq War and all that goes with it, but the changes being made are in the internal management of the White House, focusing on public relations and how the message is crafted, rather than on those who brought us this debacle. Perhaps they really do believe that the most important thing is how the propoganda is handled, not what they are actually doing. |

Rumor is that McClellan didn't do enough to "fight back" and let some of the wild, unsupported stories pass (a notable exception is where he got an apology from ABC to the White House). People are talking about Tony Snow as a replacement. Oh, and Mark, he can't hurt you anymore. |

Only Rick could spin this to be all about Iraq. |

Well, to be fair the Bush presidency is and will be ultimately judged on Iraq. It is his signature accomplishment, for good or bad. |

Yes but his press secretary leaving and his political strategist decreasing his responsibilities just might have little or nothing to do with Iraq. |

Another rumor squelched: Bush Press Secretary Quits, Limbaugh Downplays Rumors by Scott Ott (2006-04-19) — Nationally-syndicated radio talkshow host Rush Limbaugh today downplayed rumors that he’s in the running to replace White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, who announced his resignation today. “I could never afford the pay cut,” said Mr. Limbaugh. “Although I’m confident that I could answer questions from the White House press corps with half my brain tied behind my back.” “I could deal with Helen Thomas while blindfolded,” he added. “In fact, the blindfold would be a non-negotiable condition of my employment.” |

This has nothing to do with spin. Bush is cleaning house because the Congressional Republicans told him to because his poill numbers are in the toilet and are dragging the overall GOP's poll numbers down. By replacing Card and McClellan and demoting Rove, it is clear Bish thinks the problems he is having are based on White House organization and management (Card), the way the press is being handled (McClellan) and how the propoganda and politics from the White House is being dealt with (Rove). All I am saying is that Bush's problems are not how the story is being played, but in his debacle in Iraq. If he wants to resolve his problems, he needs to get us out of the quagmire -- and do it fast. But apparently he thinks the real problem deals with the press and the propoganda, not his failed policies. |

Rick's list is not so very different from Josh Bolton's list. His list of areas that needed work: relations with the press (he's told associates that he wants someone who has pre-existing relationships with the Washington press corps); frictions with Congressional Republicans; and something else I can't remember at the moment. |
