Ok, I tried to take a picture of a lightning bolt.

An exercise in futility you might say.

Well I think I got lucky...

No dice.

I guarantee I caught a couple nice bolts, but I had it on night vision (AKA, it captures for about 2 seconds to get all the light), and I caught a couple bolts, but they aren't showing up. This is bullsh1t. :(

haha. it came by here at about 6pm, when my almost-sisters and i were at dinner. my roomie and i ran back to our room to close the windows because my piano is right in front of the windows.

we then ran back outside and walked to the music building in bare feet, with our jeans rolled up, and just stood in the storm, getting SOAKING wet. it was so much fun!
And how are you today?

I took about 100...a couple that had lightning, but the lightning didn't show up. I dunno...maybe I needed the camera on a different setting?

you probably just missed the lightning.

It happens really fast.

You have to set the camera on a tripod put the shutter speed stting on "B" or Bulb. Using a shutter release cable you lock the shutter open. After a lightning strike, you close the shutter.

Experiment with different aperture settings. If you want the background to show up open the aperture. If it appears washed out close it down a step until you get the result you are looking for.

I hope you weren't doing this in a thunderstorm. Being struck by lightning has a certain way of putting an end to fun. :hair:

As much as I love taking pictures, I really don't know much about it.

What I did last night was put it on no flash and/or night setting. From the sound of the camera, it sounded like the exposure lasted 2 seconds.

So, let's say I took a picture, I heard the shutter open, after a second, a lightning bolt flashed, and AFTER the bolt, I heard the shutter close. I thought I caught a few lightning bolts that way...but when the picture came out, there was nothing there....was I wrong? Am I using the wrong terminology?

I'd really like to get into photography. :)

I bet it does, but so far so good.

Actually, in college...we had this big thunderstorm at night, and Aqua and I went out to the basketball court and lied down in the middle and watched the lightning strike all around. THAT will wake you up. :hair:
