and did it with class too! She was totally owned.

i don't think he owned her, although he did a better job than he usually does, but Bush doesn't have class, and never will.

LW,

Have you spent much time in Texas? I cannot think you have. Most people I know who don't get Bush know little of Texas and nothing of Texans. The East Coast Bush legacy was totally overriden by being brought up with the gracious, open, honest, friendly and polite nature of Texans. Not the people who moved to Dallas or Houston five years ago and bought boots, but the people who grew up out in Midland, Odessa, Abilene, Buffalo Gap. Bush is most assuredly the product of that society, and shows it in everything he does. Bush has a lot of class.. it's just a class you don't understand. I'll take his kind of class over the slick talkin' bubba that preceded him any day.

Absolutely.

All hat, no cattle, does not play well in Texas, or much of the South and Midwest.

Clinton was a lot about all hat...

Amen. He's certainly far more gracious and less vicious to his enemies. W is the sort who would stomp on someone's head when he's already down in a bar fight.

And you probably think Vincent Foster really committed suicide, huh?

When the Marines first introduce a young man to bootcamp, one of the top priorities is to rearrange the recruit's mentality.

To be effective combat warriors, thought processes must change. To illustrate: when two young American men get into a bar fight, it most often starts with posturing, pushing and shoving. As the DIs explain it, it is much more effective to turn a meek cheek to wrath, wait until your opponent passes by, and then beat his head in with barstool.

It carries very little risk to the attacker, maximum injury to your opponent, and uses a minimum of resources.

The good politicians do the same thing, albeit in a different sense. W was his father's " enforcer during the latter stages of 41's Presidency, which is why I have always found the charges of him being waffly, or not predatory. to be ludicrous. As David Frum so aptly pointed out in his book, Bush is very much a corporate CEO type manager, but whoa unto those who draw his ire.

Fear is the beginning of respect, be it in the offices of a business, or in diplomatic relations with other nations. Other nations of the world may not love the United States, but I doubt very few now take us, or our military, lightly.

That is not an entirely bad thing.

Therefore, sometimes it pays to have a SOB on your side...

The same people killed him that killed the Kennedy boys. Since these deaths they've become disenchanted with the Illuminati and are currently spending their evenings as backing singers with Elvis Presley.

W is the sort who would stomp on someone's head when he's already down in a bar fight.

Curious, why do you say that?

Because he's downright vicious to his opponents. Remember Swiftboating?

Let's not revise history. Bush had nothing to do with the swift boat issue, and in fact went on record that he didn't support them.

That is not an entirely bad thing.

Given the debacle in Iraq, our failure to achieve any of our goals, and the total incompetence in the way the mission has been handled, they really should take it lightly -- at least when commanded by Bush.

Unless, of course, the greatest fear is chaos.

This is certainly not our finest hour that would instill fear in anyone at all.

Would anybody here like to buy a bridge I've been trying to sell? It has a prime location in central London, and comes with a great deal of history.

Given the debacle in Iraq, our failure to achieve any of our goals, and the total incompetence in the way the mission has been handled, ....

Our chief goal was to remove Saddam from power. We did that.

You really need to reconsider this Zimmerian Dialectic (tm)-- it just doesn't seem to be working for you.

I'm not sure it was our *chief* goal, but it was certainly one of the first and foremost goals, and it was a necessary prerequisite to the other goals.

You're quibbling, Quirt. Read Bush's Address from March 17, 2003. It seems to be pretty much about Saddam.

Yeah, maybe I'm quibbling. But I don't think taking out Saddam constituted "Mission Accomplished", whatever banners the White House may have commissioned.

You could argue that an over-emphasis on the relatively easy to achieve goal of removing Saddam indicates a lack of clear mid-term planning by the administration.

You could argue that. I don't expect a Presidential Address on the eve of an invasion to lay out implementation strategies.

No, I will argue that. You could.

My point was that stating that removing Saddam is the primary goal of this conflict is to overly-simplify, and declaring the war over after a very short period of time was either naive or misleading. Clearly, Bush has achieved some of his objectives, however there's a long way to go before the operation can be considered a success.

I can agree with that.

I can also agree that it will be a success once we get those wacky libs out of the media, so we can get the job done.

On second thought, Bush does a pretty good job ignoring the kool-aid drinkers! :D
