The UN Inspectors were all over Iraq. The US was tellng them where to go, where the US was sure the WMD's were. They went to every place.

Again, read 1441. That is not what Saddam was required to do.

I'm forced to say, that on reading the transcript, if that's being pwn3d!!!!1 in todays world of politics, I reckon I should run for Governor. I admit that this might look better on video than it does on paper, but have skills of oratory sunk to such shambolic levels that this is considered to be an effective and incisive put-down?

:thumb:

A great orator, W. is certainly, certainly not. And this case is no exception.

Bush definitely isn't the best speaker...but he has his moments.

I'd rather have someone like Bush who speaks to the point, sticks to his word, and gets the job done.

As compared to Clinton who will smooth his way through any speech, but you can't trust his word at all.

That ahl depends on what your definition of not is.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Like Bob the Builder, you mean?

[to the tune of a certain children's TV programme, that I never ever watch]

Dick, Don and Condy, Karl Rove too,
Here comes Georgy, to join the crew
Shooting and bombing, buckets of blood,
They all stick together, like good friends should.

I think I missed my vocation as some kind of whiney liberal-artsy fartsy protest singer. I'm having a slow day. :P

That's ridiculously transparent and generalized, wouldn't you say?

Generally, I'd rather have a prez who gives ok speeches and sticks to his word; than someone who smooth talks you and you can't really trust.

Personally, I see Bush more in the former category and Clinton more in the latter.

EDIT: And that's not based on partisan bias. I think Nader is also very trustworthy and straightforward...even if I don't always agree with him.

Gee. The leader of the free world just about held his own against an over-the-hill hack like Helen "Hamas" Thomas.

I'm underwhelmed.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

Now now, he spoke off the cuff and without a teleprompter or speechwriter. That's an achievement that shouldn't go unnoticed.

We need something like questions for the Prime Minister. I'm afraid Bush would come off badly in that sort of exchange.

Dick Cheney was holding his own against her while she was talking to Bush? I'm surprised she managed to stay at least partially lucid! Good for her!

THE PRESIDENT: Helen, excuse me. That's where -- Afghanistan provided safe haven for al Qaeda. That's where they trained. That's where they plotted. That's where they planned the attacks that killed thousands of innocent Americans.

I also saw a threat in Iraq.

89th, that last sentence is a total non sequitur compared to the first paragraph. There's no link. There's no evidence of what the threat was. It was incredibly poor, from the point of view of debate skills. In a college debate, he would have been disqualified.

On that particular point, he didn't own his own toenail.

I have to agree. I know what he was trying to say but he did a poor job of saying it.

The British parliamentary system does mean that the PM tends to be much better at adversarial debating than the typical American President. Whether this leads to better leaders is open to question, of course.

In the conference today, he didn't claim there was a link.

She asked "what about Iraq" and he said that he saw a threat in Iraq. I know that's not exactly a detailed explanation, but his reason is that for a while Al-Qaeda trained, prepared, and plotted in Afgahnistan and we didn't do anything. He sees a similar threat in Iraq and that's why he wants to start acting proactively.

Much more articulate than what he said. I repeat, he didn't own her, not even a little bit.

She came in there with an agenda. She hasn't been called on for 3 years. He finally calls on her, she tries to throw a curveball and then gets into a HIGHLY unusual back and forth unscripted debate with her and clearly spells out what he's been doing. At least from the content in the transcript, he very much pwn3d her.

Don't believe me, listen to JB. He's on your side, and he doesn't think W owned her.

Or continue to be stubborn and look foolish. Your choice.

It's a matter of perspective and opinion, obviously.

There are some here who think she was owned by Bush's response and some here who don't.

You're looking through a prism, and seeing what you expected to see. 'Nuff said.

As I said, I thought he did quite well with the warantless wiretap issue. I thought he did well, overall. So I think I'm fairly objective. He didn't own Helen, not even a little bit.

She started out with the premise that every reason he's given for what was wrong (which isn't true) and that since he became president he wanted to go to war (which isn't true).

Bush called her on it, told her how she was wrong, and also kept her from trying to interupt him several times.

She was pwn3d from the beginning.

He should have handed that moonbat her head. He didn't. Seriously, I am in sync with a lot of his policies but listening to him speak makes me cringe.

He definitely could have gone further, sometimes I wish he would show even more emotion than he does. I would love for any president to get really heated up there, to at least show he's still human like the rest of us.

He's human like the rest of us. Just much, much, much richer, and his Dad was President. In other words, not like the rest of us at all.
