Freedom might agree with me when I say I think IRON-BRU is pretty darn good.  They need to make that stuff in the states!

Made in Scotland, from Girders! It's just about the best hangover cure there is, as well as being pretty nice in it's own right. As a kid, I really liked Dandelion and Burdock, which is another soft drink you don't get over here.

I LOVE iron bru. :hearts:

And love those chewy iron bru sweet bars you can get too! Yummy!

Which is also the same water put into Coke, Sprite, etc....... You have to wonder how much more profit per bottle Coke and Pepsi make from their respective waters when compared to their sodas.

Yep! And what about comparing their bottled water to tap?

Assuming the averages (water bill, usage, etc), people should be paying about 69 cents a glass for tapwater. Compare that to the 1.25 per bottle of Aquafina, and well...

(And this is just the economics; I won't even get into the chemistry.)
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I certainly don't believe the bottles that say 'fresh mountain spring water, straight from the glacier, etc.) but am curious as to what is actually 'bad' about the bottled water, Aqua. Are there any that are better than others? Or less bad? I'm just interested in something less skanky than my tap water.

89th, don't you know that the flouride is in the water, so that the government can track our movements with giant X-Ray satellites?

Well, for one thing, the regulations concerning tap water is much more stringent than those which are on bottled water (actually, I don't believe there are any restrictions on tap water.) Tap water is cleaner and healthier. In most cases, it's been shown that the taste issue involving tap water is psychsomatic. They've had people drink their own tap water (unknowingly, they put in an expensive bottle and said it was the newest bottled water) and compare it with their favorite bottled water. 90 times out of 100, the people preferred their own tap water.

For sure. Except for some places, such as where I currently live. We have boil water advisories several times a year, and lots of times when you turn the tap on, the chlorine fumes are so strong you gag.

Bah, fine, you twisted my arm. :P . Sue asked as well, which means I probably haven’t gotten all the mileage out of this rant yet, so here goes. Herein lies a very abridged explanation for my disdain for bottled water.

Bottled water has VERY limited federal regulations that test it for quality. For example, just a year ago (late 2004), the FDA got around to proposing we test the stuff for arsenic. Pharmaceutical waste is also a fun one, and it’s been found in Dasani on numerous occasions.

There’s no fluoride in bottled water.

The price is ridiculous, for what you’re getting. You could do this yourself, but for us here in the DC area, tapwater costs about 0.69 cents (good lookin’ out LD!) a glass, where bottled water costs $1.25.

So what are you paying for? “Clear, natural spring water. Purified, and devoid of any harmful impurities.” Well, we’ll get into that in a second, but you DO want to be drinking down those trace minerals; your body needs them just as much as it does the water you’re drinking; check out a Centrum multivitamin one day and look on the back at how much freaky crap they put in there. They know their stuff, elements like copper and silver are good for you in small doses, your body uses them! If you were really drinking what was advertised, you’d have distilled water, and not only does it taste nasty, it’s real bad for you. Water is one of nature’s strongest sponges; it HATES to be by itself. By drinking pure water, what doesn’t get absorbed in your body will actually pull nutrients out of your body, and you’ll be worse off than before you drank the stuff. You WANT the weird stuff in your water! Most water quality regs do a good job of keeping tapwater safe (in the East Coast, anyways; the rest of the country as well, but they have a completely different water table than us here, so it’s hard to say for sure).

The hot topic of the day is antimony. The plastic used for bottled water does in fact leak antimony into the water, and it is certainly a serious contaminant. But just how much is needed to cause health concerns? There’s more studies being done now, and no official word yet, but of course it’d always be better to just not touch the stuff.

And my personal favorite, bottled water has failed almost every single major taste test ever held. The winner (always the winner, but never by much) has always been New York City tapwater. It should probably be noted that NYC tapwater has some of the harshest water quality regs in the U.S. today.

I won’t even get into my opinions regarding water as a privatized commodity. :veryangry:

Now, if you’re under a boil water advisory, or if there’s some other reason not to trust the tap, then sure, bottled water is just fine. But what really irks me is drinking it to “maintain a healthy lifestyle”, for the reasons listed above.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

No, John, I'd know better than to suggest something like that. You could go here to find out whether or not your local drinking water is up to par, though.

Yes, LD, they did!

As a matter of fact, due to the nature of the bottled water process, scientists are now claiming there is no purification system available which could extract DHMO from the water.

This should be of big concern, since DHMO is a constituent of many known toxic substances, diseases and disease-causing agents.

Actually, liberal use of hydroxyethane will get rid of most of the diseases carried by this disgusting liquid.

Whew, that's good to know John. I've put a fair amount of effort into this theory over the years, and would hate to think it hasn't been beneficial.

We drink large quantities of bottled spring water (no doubt springs from the local water plant) and I take this hydroxyethane business very seriously.
