HOLY CARP!!!
Well...so...it's my daughter's birthday. I'm in the kitchen, finishing up her birthday dinner. I reach above my head to pull a skillet of a hanging pot rack. I clear the hook and drop the skillet on my face. I grabbed my chin and let the pan fall to the floor because I could tell it was a deep cut and I was wearing my favorite white blouse. I really didn't want to bleed all over it! Long story short, sat in the ER through the entire KU and most of the OU games and came home with 8 stitches in my chin. It doesn't hurt right now, it's still numb. Maybe it won't. That would be good.

because it sure is UGLY

Oh no!! Poor Deb!! I hope it doesn't hurt too much tomorrow. And just think - when your daughter isn't behaving exactly how she should, you now have a guilt-trip story about how you were almost decapitated while cooking her birthday dinner! ;)

Ow!!! Although I was sure you were going to say the skillet continued to fall, and broke your toe. See, it could have been worse!

Hope you feel better in the morning, Deb.

OUCH. Sorry to hear that, Deb. Hope it won't hurt to bad when the painkillers wear off. If it makes you feel any better, I cut my forehead open once and had 18 stitches put in. And I have a scar.

But I'm sure you won't be left with one. Really. :whome:

Edit: I'd better say that the scar has faded until it's barely visible. So you shouldn't worry. Too much. Why do I get the feeling this post won't make you feel any better? :(

Sorry, Deb.

Apply Vitamin E ointment liberally, four times a day up until a week after the stitches come out. I don't know if it's the Vitamin E itself or the barrier effect of the ointment, but this was recommended to me by a plastic surgeon who specializes in facial cosmetic surgery, and the couple of times that I've done it, the scars have healed invisibly.
It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

Yeooowch!
Ms. Debbie ..
I can just envision this.
Hope your chin heals.
Make sure you don't delay getting those stitches out when it's time too. And don't let them yank them out while your skin is dry. Keep the area soft and supple (ya know what I mean) after the swelling goes down (Be it with polysporin or whatever was recommended). No picking either. You want that area to heal right.

Oooooooooooh ouch!! Gosh I hope you heal quickly. So sorry to hear about your accident. Next time use your hands to remove the pan from the pot rack instead of your chin! Unless you have a really deep cleft, it usually doesn't work very well.

My understanding as well as experience is, as has already been said here, to avoid picking at the scab. Also, an ointment, like vitamin E, can help soften the scab so it doesn’t crack and fall off prematurely.

Even if you develop a scar, it can be reduced by plastic surgery (which produces a smaller scar). Also, like has been said here, scars fade over time. A tan around the scar might make it stand-out more. Since you’re (as best I can tell) fair skinned, I’d expect you’d use a high-SPF sunscreen anyway.

HOLY CARP!!!
The good news is that it doesn't hurt. If there is a scar, maybe it will make me look dangerous. That would be an interesting change of pace.

Apple...funny you should mention the show. I'm going to have to get this healed so I can glue on the witchy chin for the first act.

Ouch! Deb, I hope you heal quickly and pain stays away..... Kitchens are such dangerous places, aren't they?

I almost spit out my coffee while reading this thread...at the end the banner ad is for Pot Racks!!!
