Having back problems AGAIN. Considering a massage therapist, or a chiropractor. What sorts of things does your chiropractor do? My friend swears by a guy that uses this little spring loaded hammer thingie. Do any of you know anything about this, verses manual manipulation? I am clueless, so I'd appreciate any insights you all have. Lower back pain really stinks.

ZOOOOOM!
Jodi, I empathize fully. A few years ago, every 9 months, my back would decide to "go out on me", meaning some muscle tear or something, and I'd be totally in traction for 3 days.

I've never been, but my mom and uncle swear by thher chiropractor. Never really get into detail about what they do, just that they go for months without any problems after a visit.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Chiropractors can help alleviate alignment or pressure problems IF that is the cause of your pain. If it is back spasms caused by torso weakeness or mucscle strain or whatever, they cannot do much about that.

Describe your symptoms. Does pain go down the back of your legs, or is it more one side or the other around the top of the hip? Does it start very suddenly, and is it in the same place every time? Did you do anything to injure it the first time?

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
I had a bit of a tweak the other night, just before getting on the plane to fly to NJ. I have an occassionally repeating L4-L5 problem from a couple of auto accidents about 20 years ago. I could not get in to see the chiro before the trip.

MS got me a ThermaCare® Heat Wrap that I wore on the plane, and I was very comfortable the whole trip (even cramped in steerage on America West). I also took some Doan's and was in good shape. I am still a bit stiff, but not in any pain.

If you have lower back pain, I strongly recommend the heat wraps.
The dogma lives loudly within me.
