Is there a candidate we could all support in 2008?

Let's talk Presidential elections.

Is there someone out there that you think would appeal to both Liberals and Conservatives in the 2008 election?

Or do you think this is this going to be a pretty strict party line vote?

Some possible candidates and my (somewhat uneducated) views of them:

John McCain
From my viewpoint, I think he might get my vote. He strikes me as being a moderate Republican who thinks for himself. I admit to not having done much homework on him, so currently this opinion is based on the sound bites I've caught over the years and some of the legislation he's backed.

Hillary Clinton:
I don't see myself voting for her. She *might* make a good President but then again she might be a disaster. Remember the bi-partisan bumper sticker from a year or so ago? "Run Hillary Run". Dem's put it on their back bumper. Repub's put it on their front bumper.

Jeb Bush:
I don't know very much about him at all, and would have to do some serious research before making up my mind. Being someone who didn't vote for GW, he would admittedly start at a deficit with me.

John Kerry:
Might he run again and win the Democratic nomination? Hope not, 'cause I don't think he can win.

John Edwards:
I've heard that he might run. He has a good TV persona, but that's hardly a reason for voting for a man. Again, I don't know that much about him.

Who else is there? And more importantly, do you think there's a candidate that will appeal across ideological lines?

Is Lieberman too old? I could see myself voting for him.

If you would just change the constitution, you could have Tony Blair. He's a Liberal, and he supports the war. What more could you ask for? It would be quite the win-win situation for Britain, as well.

Apart from him, Joe Lieberman?
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Liberman didn't come to mind when I put my list together. Yeah, I might be able to support him, but I think it would depend on who got the Republican nomination.

schindler, what are your qualifications?

Lieberman could get my vote too, depending on who else is running.

McCain I could support as well.

Giuliani might run as VP, but he's too liberal for me.

Mark Warner from VA is my prediction to be Hillary's VP nom.

I'd like to see George Allen from VA run for prez for the GOP with Rice being his VP nom.

Richardson from NM might also be Hillary's VP nom.

And Santorum from PA is great, but too far right to be considered.

Though many people like McCain, there is another serious issue with him: his health. He has a malignant melanoma of the left cheek, and it appears that, even after 3 operations, it continues to grow. He does not open his mouth well when he speaks, and the tumor is clearly visible on his left side. I doubt that he will survive to the end of the decade.

Harry's aunt was just abusing him as usual, and he kind of overreacted. This almost got him expelled from Hogwarts.

I literally blew milk out my nose when I read that... :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

That said,

John McCain: Health issues.

Hillary Clinton: No mas, no mas.

Jeb Bush: I seriously doubt the GOP will nominate another Bush, until Jeb's son steps up.

John Kerry: Could not win last time, no message other than 'Well, I'd do what he did, but I'd do it BETTER'. Pathetic.

John Edwards: He would have done better to refuse the VP nod. As it was he sold his soul and pimped himself out to Kerry, causing himself to flip positions rather badly. His own statements in 2004 will doom him in 2008.

Lieberman? Maybe. I like and respect him ,he just belongs to this sad, tired party.

Frist? Please no. For some reason I see his face and think 'well, there's the Anitichrist.. it's all coming true.'. There's no basis for it other than he has been abandoning the CIC during wartime to further his own ambitions, which I find unacceptable.

George Allen? Don't reall know a thing about him. Anyone want to give me GA 101?

Santorum? Very capable man. I think. Again, I don't know enough about him.

Condi? Yeah man. Condi vs. Hillary. Catfight, catfight!!!!! :lol2:

Something just sounds odd with President Santorum. It just doesn't seem to roll off the tongue smoothly.

Santorum is toast in his own state. He has no hope nationwide.

Right now, of all the people polling in double digits, my favorite is probably McCain. I might be able to get behind Mark Warner, or Tom Vilsack, but I'd have to see a lot more of them, and they'd have to really improve their national standing.

Yes, McCain. Tell me again about how left-wing I am.

Pinko lawyer.

Actually my perception of you, Quirt, is that of a guy who resolves problems for others all day, and does so reasonably and ethically. Almost every attorney I have ever dealt with did the same.

I think that is what you look for in candidates, as opposed to ideological stances. When the rubber meets the road, the president has to solve the problems that come his way, not the issues he/she would prefer t o address.

There you have it. It's not really all that complicated. What makes it more complicated is looking at the team and the $$$ behind the candidates.

Hillary is a tough gal, I think she would do well as president. I also like Lieberman and I think Colin Powell might be a good choice. Jeb I couldn't trust - not after the Florida ballot scandal. Not to mention I think the world is tired of the Bush family. I also like John McCain, but as mentioned, his health is not the best.
