HOLY CARP!!!
|
A coworker's dad just died. They passed around a card for everyone to sign. When I got the card I noticed several people had put cash into the envelope, totaling maybe 30 bucks from perhaps 20 people who had signed the card so far. This guy is 55 years old and makes about $100 grand a year. His house is paid off. His kids are grown, through college and working. He and his wife are in good health. He is eligible for retirement now with a very fat pension and full medical till 65 when Medicare kicks in. He is inheriting several pieces of property from his dad valued at perhaps $5 million dollars. I wonder how comforting this $37 will be. If you knew all of these financial details about the guy would you put some cash into the envelope? |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
|
Um.. Kenny, the cash is for flowers I'd bet, or a contribution to the deceased's charity, but not likely a gift. You really are in a bad mood today. |

No, I don't see the point. Irrespective of his financial position, I don't think money is appropriate in this kind of situation. |

ZOOOOOM!
|
That's pretty bad, man. What's the money mean? Unless you're a family member or a close personal friend, it's not really in the protocol for you to help with the funeral arrangements. So what's the 37 bucks for? The mentality of someone putting in 5 bucks in a funeral card to "help out" really scares me. (Good call with the flowers, though. If it's for something practical and they had intent in mind, then yeah sure okay. But it sounded like they were just tossing money in.) |

I'm thinking maybe Kenny missed the announcement about sticking in a buck or two if you wanted to help with flowers...anything else is just plain bizarre |

Yes, nobody said anything about flowers. I'm sure that is what it must have been for. I'm going to ask and put in money.
