alot of factors have interplayed... it's not so much the newbies vs the oldies... that really has nothing to do w/ it

"Sorry, hadn't noticed.

Surely you played and considered more pianos than just Petrof during your piano safari? A lot of the folks asking for advice don't even know which way to turn.

I'm sure that any help you, or any of the newbies could give would be most appreciated. "

Jolly, you, Derick, and others have turned your lamentations and blame regarding the deteriorization of Piano World to the "newbies". Why is that? Is it because we don't bow down to veteran posters? Respect your "betters"? Man, listen to yourself.
I thought the disgruntlement all started with the need to police the immoral dealers that abound there, filling the forum with loads of lies and misinformation.
I may not know a tenth of what you know about pianos, but I really don't see alot of that going on there. I see people like you still bitching cuz Larry got booted.

Also, I didn't realize it was incumbent of me to answer each and every post ala Mrs. Kern (bless her soul). Again, if there is a post that I feel I have a valid answer or suggestion for, I do and have posted. It won't take to long to find them all either, with my hideously low post count.

But again, I kind of like the tension and conflict that arises there regularly. For that I thank you. It makes my working day go by a little faster.

:thumb:

Use the quote buttons, it makes stuff easier.

(And now I can't believe I'm going to take up for Ms. Kern)

In the old days, we kinda prided ourselves that no question go unanswered, if at all possible. I've bumped more than one starting post back up to the top, knowing I didn't know ****e from Shinola, but hoping Rick, Larry, Rich, Mark, or one of the guys would catch it. I wasn't the only one doing so, others did as much or more than I did. We thought we were a consumer-based board, and we were on a mission (probably too strong a word) to help people.

We wanted people to play a bunch of different pianos. We wanted them to find a piano they loved, or at least liked, for the money they had in their pockets. It didn't matter if it was a Fazioli concert grand, or a Steve Miller Landfill Special. So if we knew something, or had an opinion, we didn't keep it to ourselves, especially when threads started to sink.

You see, behind every piano question on that board is somebody that wants affirmation that they didn't blow their kid's braces money on a piece of junk, or that they are getting a decent enough piano for their child, or that they are spending money saved for a dream on a worthwhile dream. Most of them are not trolls, they're people. Confused, ignorant, or not knowing which way to turn.

If someone is treading water and calling out to you, do you: A) hand them a rock, B) ignore them or C) throw them a rope, even if the rope is not 3/4" Coast Guard approved?

I would submit that a substandard or average rope is better than no rope.

So watch the PF board, and look for those threads where you can help. Especially the ones where little or no help is given.

Throw them a rope.

Who knows, it may even be more amusing than making fun of people.

Mr. Jolly,

in the (now) locked thread on PW you mentioned the old days at RMMP.

As a "top poster" at RMMP (started to post before Larry signed with his full name), I am curious what was your sn at that newsgroup. Please refresh my memory.

On a more nefarious note, I almost said "Davey", just to see what would happen...... :leaving:
