HOLY CARP!!!

One of the newest things that Montana de Luz has gotten involved in is the ability to receive donations online with a credit card, via secure server, through a website called firstgiving.com. This is a site that, for a relatively small annual fee, allows you to create a website using their pre-set template to raise funds for whatever your particular cause or charity. [shameless plug] You can see a sample of a firstgiving site here, at the one I just put up to help me in my own fundraising efforts [/shameless plug] http://www.firstgiving.com/dwainlee I'm sharing this for two reasons: first, [obvious]if anyone here felt like kicking in with a quick, easy online contribution to the orphange, I'd be deeply appreciative[/obvious]. But just as importantly, I think it's a really great tool for anyone who is trying to raise support for their own pet project. Maybe you're trying to flak for contributions to an established organizaiton like I am. Maybe you're going to take part in a walk-a-thon, or some similar charitable venture, and you want an easy way to promote it to friends and family all over the country, or even the planet. I just thought it was a cool way to help in those efforts, whatever they might be, and thought I'd point out its existence for your reference. Part of the site includes a "thermometer" to track how far along you are in achieving your financial goal. You can also adjust the online thermometer if you receive funds from sources that don't use the site. Contributions can be made with the donor's name appearing on the site, or anonymously, and the site automatically emails thank you notes out to all who make a contribution. All in all, pretty cool. www.firstgiving.com |

Thanks, Dwain! I will forward this to everyone who will listen! I have had requests from my office mates (there are 52!) for info on how to donate. This makes it very easy.Does the site take any cut of the proceeds? PS..My other idea is in the works...

Oh BL, you have to set up a site - it's ridiculously simple. Yes, they do take a small amount off the top of each contribution - so honestly, mailing a check directly to them yields a slightly higher net contribution. But you know, we're all so lazy - it's just so easy to just "click, type, click" and it's all done, that the small "skim" is worth it. Yes, I did get your email the other day, just behind in replying. I thought of the picture through the side of the church too; I took it specifically for its lines and compositional "movement" as was discussed in the email. But I want to find a good one from the mountain itself, possibly even with some of the kids in the scene. I think ultimately, good quality signed, limited edition lithographs of the original would be a huge hit also.
