Pant.. pant.. just got back from my four mile walk on the river bike trail! Gorgeous!!!! Dog likes it too.

Better physically, metabolically and emotionally than any drug.

You inspired me, Mik. I just got back from a three mile jog through the desert -- a warm Arizona afternoon -- jogging shorts and a tee shirt. I haven't run regularly in a few months, though MS and I just started going back to the gym for weights and cardio. I want to get back to my wedding weight (180) but am still down 15 pounds from where I was this time last year (life time high of 208 -- metabolism sucks as you age).

Feelin' pretty good!

Well... I don't know which wedding I'd pick so I'd like to get back to my original weight......... 7lbs 5 oz.
I'd rather fall into chocolate.

I guess it depends on what constitutes herbal medication, George.

You can take fish oil supplements, or eat the equivalent amount of salmon each day.

You can take lycopene, or eat lots of tomatoes.

You can take green tea extract, or actually drink green tea.

I'm using those three as examples, because I actually take all three of those.

Do you rigorously question what their diet has been over the two weeks prior to the surgery?

I question everyone regarding all, repeat all medications they take, be they prescribed or over the counter. Fish oil extracts, lycopene and green tea have not been shown to be dangerous. Gingko, Wort and a host of others have.

"What medications do you take?"
"Are there any other medications that are not prescribed by a physician, such as herbal supplements that you take?"

Every person, every day.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I guess that I'm glad that the stuff I'm taking isn't dangerous. :)

My point was that, if you only ask about herbal supplements, you might not catch the stuff that they take as part of their food. For example, if green tea extract *did* bother you, you'd also have to ask about everything they drink.

Moreover, by just asking about herbals, you might miss stuff that's in the so-called energy drinks. Some of the stuff that troubles you ... like ginkgo ... can be in some of the energy drinks that are sold at places like Whole Foods.

Have you ever tried those energy drinks (Red Bull, etc)?

I stay away from them -- they sort of scare me.

Do you shoot dope regularly or occasionally?

If so, maybe you should put yourself under.

Combining caffeine and any ephedrine product (including pseudoephedrine) can cause seizures, heart attacks or strokes. I was taking allergy meds with pseudoephedrine and drinking quite a bit of soda (Coke) and wound up in the hospital after having grand mal seizures.

pills that combine E and C have been available OTC for decades.

(and there's no serious doubt that they do increase calorie consumption and reduce appetite. Just like a cup of coffee does, only on a larger scale.)
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

How much coffee is too much?
How much ephedrine is too much?

Do you know? I don't. I know I see problems with too much of either. One guy that I work with had a heart rate of 200 one morning (said he was feeling kind of weak!). He was in atrial fibrillation (look it up). Ken used to dring 12 cups of coffee a day. He drinks none now.

The problem is that these "OTC" drugs are unregulated in terms of dose per pill (no consistency from one tab to the next), in terms of availability (go to one health food store, buy a dozen bottles, then to another - take as much as you 'need'), in terms of purity, and in terms of bioavailability (how much of that pill you take actually gets into your system).

You wouldn't do that with the oil of your car, why would you with your body?
