The blandly misleading headline of the day, from the Associated Press:

Three Palestinians Killed in Violence.

Of those “three Palestinians,” one blew himself up and the other two were “militants” involved in a gun battle.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060112/ap_on_...el_palestinians

JENIN, West Bank - A Palestinian militant blew himself up Thursday and two other Palestinians were killed in a gunbattle with Israeli troops during an arrest raid in the West Bank town of Jenin, Palestinian security officials said.

No soldiers were injured during the raid, the army said.

What media bias?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

What media bias?

If more descriptive words were used, would you be more satisfied?

How about "Three Palestinian Freedom Fighters Killed in Violence"?

Or, "Suicide Martyr and Two Palestinians Defending Their People Killed in War Effort'?

Or (to keep the even) "Suicide Murderer and Two Armed Criminals Killed By Heroic Defenders of Israel?"

Sometimes methinks if the headline does not include our own interpretation of events, we believe it to be biased.

Ironic that on the one hand you argue that language is Constitutionally elastic, and on the other hand you make your arguments with language that is as precise as possible. Regardless of the politics of it, it must be disconcerting living in the linguistically schizophrenic world you seem to inhabit. ;)

Newspaper headlines are far from Constitutional Law. Certainly you can see the need for different standards.

All I am saying here is that it seems to me the headline was about as neutral and unbiased as it could get. Yet, George thinks it needed to include descriptors to reflect his view of things in order to be unbiased and fair. But why would his biased view be more "fair" than someone elses?

That's like Bush shooting himself in his room and the next day the headline is

"DC man killed by gunfire."

OK, but that part about "in Violence" is really superfluous and biased, isn't it? It might lead people to think that the Palestinian suicide bombers are somehow more violent than other suicide bombers.

On a related note:

MSNBC is reporting that an official in a Muslim religious organization may have died as a result of an encounter with a American explosive device.
