I can't think of a decent title for this thread!

HOLY CARP!!!
I suppose 'Goodbye' would be too blunt, and it also would not be completely honest, either.

Here's the problem: I need to work. More. Granted, my first semester at school was quite successful, and I learned a lot, but I could have worked more, studied more, read more. Now the second semester has begun, and I have barely practiced piano, barely studied or even read the assigned passages for my classes, and have been getting not enough sleep.

If you hadn't noticed, I am an academic kind of guy. I love to study, and read, and research, so why don't I? There are all of these questions that I have, and all of these subjects I am so interested in, yet I don't answer all of my questions, and I do not dive into these subjects that I love so much.

I am also very lazy. Quite a rough characteristic for someone who really wants and needs to work! But, evidently, I am not too lazy to sit at my computer all afternoon, all evening, and all night hitting the refresh button and chatting with you guys here at TNCR.

I suppose that's not a bad thing. I learn so much here, and you are all such wonderful people. It's no wonder I stay here so long.

There are 24 hours in the day. Suppose I sleep for 7 hours; say 11-6. That still leaves me 17 hours every day. Suppose I practice piano for 4 hours. That still leaves me 13 hours every day. Suppose I eat for an hour (half hour for lunch, half hour for dinner). That still leaves me with 12 hours.

I could sit here and talk with you guys for 2 hours every day, and still have 10 hours for study. Not that I would spend 10 hours studying, but there would still be all that time.

But I cannot do that. I don't know why. I try, and the day grows dark, and now it is almost 1:00 in the morning.

So here's my plan, which I suppose isn't much of a plan, but we'll see how it goes. I'm going to take a break from TNCR. I hate to do it, especially because I know, logically, that I could even spend 2 hours here every day, and practice piano for 4 hours, and eat and sleep, and still have 10 hours left for class/study/socializing/etc. But I also know, from experience, that I cannot.

I'll be back. After school is out in April, I will definately be back. :)

Who knows, maybe I'll be back sooner. Maybe I won't be able to keep myself away.

But I have to try.

There's so much I want to do. So much I want to read. I am hoping that I will learn how to manage my time, so that I will be able to spend some time here and also do the things that I want to do.

...

Do I post this? Or no?

It's a decision to make.

I can just delete this and go to bed.

...

Why am I so hesitant?

I'll be back. This isn't forever.

Sam, hopefully you'll be like me and just leave for a bit. I left one time, but came back after 2 months. I left another time and came back after 2 weeks.

Anyway, Sam...best of luck with your time management. Set a schedule...maybe only come online on Fridays, or something. Either way...keep in touch! :) I found your threads to be some of the most substantive and enlightening (and thought provoking) threads we've ever had.

Everything in moderation, Sam. I enjoy seeing your posts here. Your curiosity is infectious. In some ways, we're (or at least I'm) able to vicariously relive the college experience through your posts.

I haven't tried the chat function here yet, but if that gets up and going with scheduled sessions perhaps one night a week, you might limit your participation to that forum.

Good luck, God bless and all success as you continue your education (or should I just say mazel tov?).

I have to add my sentiments as well.

Sam, if I had been as smart as I think you are at your age, I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing! I think it was Al that commented on your curiosity. I agree. Stay curious, stay honest, stay in touch!

very wise Sam

I hope you'll drop back in and let us know how it is going. I really really enjoyed reading some of the technical stuff you posted and enjoy conversation as well. I study a lot too and occasionally need to drop off the map to get the things I want to know learned.

You are a smart young man!

Work hard and don't be a stranger. Be thinking of you!

Sam,

I took piano lessons for just one semester in college (as a credit course), and it was inCREDibly hard to add that practice time to a schedule already full with study, clubs, job, etc. I really don't know how you do it.

Work hard, but not too hard! And definitely drop by on occasion!
