Joel chapter 3

1 "For behold, in those days and at that time,
When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,

2. I will gather all the nations
And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
Then I will enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
And they have divided up My land.

maybe its my hebrew is rusty and pat's is better? from what i can see, the big man upstairs seems quite pissed off at you gentiles for f*ucking with the jews.

dont see any rebuke of jews trying to govern properly. but then again, maybe its my hebrew thats abit off...

This seems to me to refer to the other nations scattering the people and then dividing up the land among themselves.... not to the leader of Israel making concessions in order to try and assure peace between nations.

If anybody would be 'punished' in this case, it would be the Palestinians who have continually and violently demanded concession after concession, not Sharon who has continually granted these concessions in hopes for peace.

I'm not carrying water for Pat, I think he's pretty dumb for a smart man on occasion (JD-Yale Law, I forgot where his Masters in Theology is from, but it is First Tier), but most Fundamentalists still see God as not only loving, but also jealous and vengeful.

It's a bit of a shame that he restricts punishment to the relatively benign Sharon, and Roosevelt. If he really wanted to mete out some divine retribution I could think of any number of more worthy candidates.

It strikes me that Pat Robertson is a very fine example of how being clever doesn't make you wise.

AFAIK, Robertson said nothing about FDR, at least not in the scope of this thread. In his comments, he did mention the previously assasinated PM of Israel, linking both PMs to his theological observation.

Pat Robertson usually says things that are right on the money. But he crosses the line when he tries to presume what God thinks and concurrently how God will act.

Sure there are things in the Bible that semi-support his comments, but there are also far more examples of how his comments are wrong, like how we should love our neighbor, etc.

I also didn't see him directly saying that Sharon died because of his actions in the Gaza strip, but I could see a valid inference from his statements.

He has done a LOT of good in his life, but it seems when he goes too far, is when that has the most impact...and its usually negative.

Not that I really care, but didn’t Robertson express regret for that Sharon statement by remarking about how stupid it is to presume to know why God does things. But of course he and other Fundamentalists will continue to commit that Arch-sin of arrogance. They truly want to make me vomit.

I wasn't criticising Israelis. I was criticising the concept of accepting descriptions of the thoughts of supernatural beings that were written by (literally) ancient and (very much) ignorant people.

THeres a huge difference.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

jon,

I don't know if ignorance is so much the issue as the basic change in the approach to formulating a world view heralded by the Age of Reason. That is so fundamental a change, yet so hard for us to grasp in hindsight.

Do you consider the passage that Robertson quoted as true, or not?

Israel Won't Do Business With Robertson

i guess here in israel this passage carries more weight...

(exodus 23)

1. "You shall not bear a false report; do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.
2. "You shall not follow the masses in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after a multitude in order to pervert justice;

i guess people have lost interest in this, but i just saw a funny and ironic idea.

pat was so upset at dividing "the land" and it giving it away.

so actually its perfectly appropriate that israel cancel the 35 acre evangelist site deal in the gallilee to pat.

for that would also be giving "the land" to gentiles....which is forbidden by pat's own admission.

subsequently heard that he has apologozed to the sharon family, but the cancellation of the business deal is still in place. what a shame.

Israel is going to get between Pat and his God-given right to fleece the faithful?
