Although I am no big fan of the Federal Gun Registry, I think the Deputy PM's remarks are quite appropriate:

DEPUTY PM SHOOTS DOWN NRA

Canadians do not want or need no stinkin' right to bear arms.

I agree, US groups have no place in Canadian politics. That goes for both sides. Out of curiosity, do any other US lobbyists get involved in Canadian elections?

Cultural imperialism. Imagine that.

When I lived in Ontario Charlton Heston came to give a big speach about how the Federal Gun Registry was the biggest evil since Judas decided to take the money and run. A number of Canadians could be heard audibly muttering 'damn dirty apes'

Depends what the issue is. "The right to bear arms" does not qualify. Nor should Canada's public health care insurance system. However, if it's a NAFTA related issue then by all means either party is a legitimate stakeholder.
