Ok, so I just did this quick math, so I apologize if I'm wrong, but...

...is it really true that republicans have won 10 of the last 13 presidential elections!?!? :woot:

Only 10? I guess it must be true that you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

I, sir, am no cheerleader.

I think even Aqua will vouch that I'll support the most worthy candidate, no matter which party they belong to.

It just so happens that my personal positions on issues usually have me agreeing with republicans more than democrats. So, accordingly that's why I currently support Bush.

But even I have major problems with some of the things he does...namely illegal immigration, capital punishment, and his liberal spending habits.

Another example is the recent gubernatorial race here in Virginia...I would have voted for the democrat, Tim Kaine instead of the republican Jerry Kilgore. I thought Kaine was better...more in line with my views. However, I moved to Maryland a few weeks before the election, so I didn't vote.

I, sir, am no cheerleader.

How many pro Bush threads have you started to ones that are critical of the current incumbent?

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
89th -- If I were you I'd start a thread criticizing Bush for not planting more 'Mayor of Casterbridge' in the White House Rose Garden. Then you can be like Rick who approves heartily of Mr. and Mrs. Bush's choice of the White House china pattern.

I have started a few pro-Bush threads, directly supporting him...maybe 3 threads?

I have also started one or two anti-Bush threads, critisizing his border policy and spending after Katrina.

Like I said...I am no cheerleader, as much as some would like to think.

I would also like to say I'm a moderate, an independent if you willl...both according to political tests and also the way I choose to vote. Every single election is a toss up from the beginning, it just so happens that usually the GOP is more in line with my way of thinking...than the democrat candidate.

:( No, 89th, it is not true. The actual number is 8 out of 13, which takes you back to Eisenhower's 2nd term. Starting at the beginning of the 20th century, the number is 15 out of 27 elections. Just in case anyone is interested, here are the total number of presidential election winners by party:

Republicans - 22
Democrats - 20
Democrat-Republicans - 6
Whigs - 2
Federalists - 2
Union - 1
No party - 2

Note that all this is based on electoral votes. For more details, refer here:

89, I think you're a moderate in comparison to Moltke, or Ghengis Khan, if that makes you feel any better.

I don't actually think you're completely a cheerleader, but you do have some Pom-pom waving tendencies.

Well, let's see, for the last 14 elections...

1952 - Eisenhower
1956 - Eisenhower
1960 - Kennedy
1964 - Johnson
1968 - Nixon
1972 - Nixon
1976 - Carter
1980 - Reagan
1984 - Reagan
1988 - Bush
1992 - Clinton
1996 - Clinton
2000 - Bush
2004 - Bush

You're right...I did do it too quickly, however starting after the FDR/Truman term (;)), the GOP has won 9 out of 14 (64%), including 7 out of the last 10 (70%).

It's interesting how you put that. You didn't say "republican candidates won the election". You said, "the GOP has won 9 out of 14 (64%), including 7 out of the last 10 (70%). "

Don't read too much into that...I just typed it quickly and thought GOP was the fastest way to say "Republican presidential candidate running for office and that won". ;)

Curses! You've foiled me again...made me type out far more than I was trying to save in the first place! :sword:

I see what you're saying AL, but the thread itself pretty much lends itself to favoring one party over another.
