I Owe It All To John D'Oh
|
A Mac question: What does it mean when something was put in an "invisible" folder? By that, I mean a folder that is right there in front of you, but if you try to open it the computer reports that the folder is invisible and cannot be opened. Someone I know with a Mac downloaded something off the internet, and now cannot get to it because it downloaded itself into an "invisible" folder. It's driving her crazy. (She also said something about "ghost".) Anyone know? |

Using OS X (10), there are files/folders which are not accessible to the average user. These are files/folders that are used by the system, and should not be tampered with. THey are part of UNIX. I don't know if any of them are invisible, but I can imagine them being locked. Try this: "Get Info" on the folder. At the bottom of the info window should be a padlock. Clicking on that should reveal the owner/permissions. By entering her user info, she should be able to unlock that folder, unless it belongs to a different user. HTH, George |

Invisible folders have a period as the first character of the name. Download TinkerTool from version tracker. It will show you invisible folders in the GUI. Normally they are accessible only from a terminal session. |
