The productivity gains over the last 4+ years are one of the better acheivements this administration can point to. For the sake of comparison, here are the quarterly and annual figures since 1947. Make of them what you will. Al: you want to put that into an excel spread sheet and correlate to the administrations in office for us with a bar graph or something? I assume you're trying to make a political point, but the raw numbers are not doing it for me. |

Maybe aqua can do it...he's good with excel. I started to, but there must be an easier way...I started deleting the first part of each line so I would only be left with the numbers... |

OK, guys I was afraid someone would make me do the heavy lifting. No, IT, I don't see any particular political correlations in the data other than the swings have become less extreme by quarter in more recent years. Here are the productivity results for the different presidential administrations taken to the nearest quarter's data, since terms and quarters don't exactly coincide:Truman (thru 1952), 4.33% Eisenhower (1953-1960), 2.43% Kennedy (1961-1963), 4.88% Johnson (1964-1968), 3.13% Nixon (1969-mid 1974), 2.16% Ford (mid 1974-1976), 2.82% Carter (1977-1980), 0.68% Reagan (1981-1988), 1.88% George Bush (1989-1992), 2.44% Clinton (1993-2000), 1.91% George W. Bush (2001-present), 3.39% Average over entire period is 2.59% I think the result corroborates my initial statement resulting from a more cursory view of the data. Big Al |

Now this has been an extremely interesting thread. Kinda makes you think it doesn't matter what party is in the White House. Where's Burton when you need him?.... |

I wonder what the record of different Federal Reserve Chairmen looks like over their terms I do think it tends to substantiates the old wisdom that the party in power takes credit for the good that happens under their administration, while blaming forces beyond their control for anything bad. It certainly worked for FDR. Maybe that's why our economy is booming despite all the grumblings from the Left about how bad it all is. |
