Don't know what converse chuck taylors are, but yes, the shoe over the power line is showing up here. Fairly new sport here, much discussion as to it's deep inner meaning, symbolism, and such stuff.

What are they? Well, I can't quite tell for sure, it sure looks like a pair of 'em in the picture.

That was when I knew the new school year was right around the corner - Mom & Dad would drive us boys to A.W. Dice Sporting Goods in nearby Uniontown, and set us up with a new pair of Chuck Taylors.

Sorry, we're never silly.

One slightly odd one, we sing 'Ring a ring of roses, pocketfull of posies', then instead of the American 'ashes, ashes', we sing 'atishoo!, atishoo!' all fall down'

I don't know where the ashes line comes from, but the English poem originated during one of the plagues, so 'atishoo' makes more sense, in a horrible kind of way.

Anyway, put th' wood in th'hole, sit thee down, and I'll make us a nice cup of char.

We still set our kids up with Chucks. In fact, I tend to set myself up with them these days, what with all the nifty colors they come in. My favorite pair are my black ones with the pink and black argyle lining. Heh.

Ashes ashes, comes from the burning of the bodies.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

:dead: That's even worse, but should really come after the 'all fall down' to be consistent. It's funny to hear that annoying purple dinosaur singing it, nevertheless.

Sing:

What do you do when you want to have a poo
In an English country garden?
Pull down your pants and suffocate the ants
In an English country garden.

:D
How now, brown cow.

For those of you dying to sing along but don't know the tune, here's a link: http://www.contemplator.com/england/garden.html

I've just remembered another verse.......

What do you do when you want to have a poo
In an English country garden?
Pull off a leaf and wipe your underneath
In an English country garden.

Enjoy!
How now, brown cow.

How bout this one :P :-

'Round and round the garden,
Like a teddy bear.
One step, two step...
Tickly under there!'

(You do the round and round bit on the palm of the child's hand by making little circles, then the two steps up their arm and then at the end tickle them under their armpits. My gradma used to always do it to me when i was little and i used to love it! ^_^ )

'Mary Mary quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells
And little maids all in a row'

This is supposed to be about 'Bloody Mary', one of the more bloodthirsty English queens, Mary Tudor. Silver bells and cockle shells were instruments of torture. The little maid was an early version of the guillotine. The garden was the graveyard.

Mmmm....Nice!
