Freedom, think of it being said in a very dry, snooty, upperclass monotone voice.
As for the telephone wire part, can't say I know why, it's just one of those silly childhood expressions.

another parent and I were giggling about that at our sons' soccer game last weekend...one of the boys kept yanking his shorts down (they're unfashionably short  ), thus exposing his very colourful underwear. Neither of us could remember it immediately, and those youths within earshot (we didn't say it loudly) just looked at us like we were from mars. But then, they are teenagers, so I guess we are. :cool2:

There shall be no pants on the telephone wire. That space is reserved for your worn-out pair of Converse Chuck Taylors, with the laces firmly tied together.

No - i've seen it in England too. There's also a house outside of mys chool that has CD's tied by string around the cable and they have been pulled all the way along out if this persons window so that they hang down off the wire in i row (k, i guess that didn't make sense :P - but it looks really cool :P )

To add to the tree, spit the gum towards the three as projectile.
Will that help?

Well see, it's weird. The tree is outside the place where they took Lincoln after he was shot, and people used to post pennies on the tree to sort of commemorate the site.

Naturally, the easiest way to post a penny on a tree is if you have a wad of gum handy.

People still post pennies, but now you're just as likely to see someone contributing who just wants to get rid of his used-up Trident.

Don't know what converse chuck taylors are, but yes, the shoe over the power line is showing up here. Fairly new sport here, much discussion as to it's deep inner meaning, symbolism, and such stuff.
