I don't recall anyone defending torture.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Why go all the way back to 1048, Steve?

Why not just look to the other side of the world and see the Islamic fundamentalist extremists as the mirror image of the Christian fundamentalist extremists here in the US?

They all argue the same things, they all seek the same things, they all justify any action no matter how despicable on the same bases -- except ours claim to be Christian and their's claim to be Muslim.

your hyperbole often strays into the absurd. You should back it off a few settings.

It appears to be defensible as long as it is done in secret:

"the only difference between the past and now is that we used to be able to keep our covert operations secret, and we didn't have as many whining pansies to deal with."

C'mon Rick, I haven't lopped off a Muslim's head in weeks, and the last time I bombed a disco was last Spring. I'm trying to cut back, you know.

Again, what torture? Covert operations are not by definition torture.

Coffee Room topics today include a... proposal to build a wall to keep out advancing hoardes.

"Let's do the time warp again...

This brought to mind a Peter Rowan song:

In the Morelos mountains campesinos are planting their fields
Where the ghost of Zapata rides a horse that can still outrun the wind
There free in the sky and clear out of site
It's the free Mexican airforce, flying tonight

In the city of angels a cowboy is cooling his heels
Remembering that god gave us herbs and the fruits of the fields
But a criminal law that makes outlaws of those seeking light
made the free Mexican airforce, mescalito riding his white horse
yeah the free Mexican airforce is flying tonight

flying so high

How strange that an innocent herb causes money to burn
The day will kill you for making those rich fat cats squirm
but the fools who make rules with no difference between wrong or right
that's why the free Mexican airforce is flying tonight...

Uncle Sam in his misery put a nix on the fields of Guerrero
Saying shoot down all gringos and wetbacks that dare wear sombreros
Either run for your lives, surrender or stand up and fight
Or join the free Mexican airforce, mescalito riding his white horse
the free Mexican airforce, flying tonight

they're flying so high...

(instrumental)

Is not Marijuana destroying the minds of the young?
The confusion continued for power and greed in all forms
May the borders of evil with fall to the smugglers of light
Where the free Mexican airforce are flying tonight

In San Antonio they tell me that power and money are one
They can buy us or sell you to keep you afraid on the run
But no-one can stop us, my vision is clearly in sight
and the free Mexican airforce, mescalito riding his white horse
the free Mexican airforce is flying tonight

flying so high...

Some are smoking colitas while others are loading their guns
blowing smoke from their six shooters, spinning their barrels for fun
contrabandistas, banditos alike
were the free Mexican airforce who were flying tonight

High in the hills we are harvesting sweet sensimillia
The law wants it all cos they know that the wild weed can free ya
And freedom for us is the prison for the rulers of might
That's why the free Mexican airforce is flying tonight
The free Mexican airforce, mescalito riding his white horse

The free Texican airforce is flying tonight!

Thought I'd share it with everyone. :sombrero:

Only another 18 years and, gulp, the frogs win a war!
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?
