Last night I read about the great charitable idea Steve Cohen of Jason's Music in Maryland had. It seems he would loan some of the local schools pianos at no cost and in one year they would allow him to have a piano sale at their school. He went on to describe the huge impact these sales had on his bottom line! Isn't this great!? A piano sale......at a school! (sarcasm) They did not mention any of the creative pricing that you might find at one of these sales. Nor did they mention any of the interesting sales tactics employed. |

Baltimore...I believe. Could be wrong. I only post it here because I seem to remember these being hot topics in the PW and I thought S Cohen was a member. And really I was hoping Larry would chime in and go nuts on the state of the industry!! |

Only he could take the college sale idea that has been around for years and change the school's grade level and then claim it was an "original" idea..... My guess - he doesn't sell Yamaha or Kawai so he couldn't get into the colleges in his area. All that was left was to go to the grade schools and ask them to let him in. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall during his "lecture" or whatever he called it where he "unveiled" this genius plan to other dealers. He's an industry consultant, you know..... They had to be looking at each other in bewilderment considering that many of them have been doing this same thing for a long time. I guess nobody consulted him on the matter..... |
