HOLY CARP!!!
Who filled you with the idea that life was easy, and that everything and everyone was special?

If everyone's special ... nobody is

To answer this question: " How can I NOT be upset by that!?!?"

Simply don't be. Rather, be upset ... ..... ok... now move on.
And the next thing that upsets you? Let it ... and then wait.... ....

...

wait for it...
...

OK... now let it go.

And onto the next.

It's really sort of easy once you get the hang of it.

I've gotten to such an advanced level that it takes chronic illness to give me sufficient practice. Rest assured though, you'll always have enough to practice. Usually pretty close to your threshold, but never more.

But no, I don't think I'm intelligent or special. Or do I?

I think I can easily be replaced by millions of other people.

That is probably one of the hardest realizations to come to in life. Especially, I imagine, if you've been homeschooled. Truth is, you are one of many. There will always be someone better at something you do well. That's a fact of life that you need to learn to deal with. That doesn't mean you aren't intelligent, nor does it mean you aren't special. You are special to quite a few people. But special is a two way street. And you need to treat those people who think you are special well, NAK. That includes the people here.

Who said I thought life was easy? And I know nobody is special - I just don't like it.

I disagree with the statement that "nobody is special". You may not be special to the masses, but you are special to those who love you. And those are the people that matter the most. The masses won't take care of you when you are sick, nor will they love you when you are down. It's your friends and family that are important. They are the people who make you special.

I think I can easily be replaced by millions of other people.

At least that many!! And many are probably younger than you.

Got to figure that with billions of people in the world you can't be that special. Don't let it bother you. And try not to become enamored with your successes in the short time you have been around. The real tests of your life are a yet to come!!

Just something to look forward to!

How can I NOT be upset by that!?!? How can YOU not be upset by that?!

LOL....got over that many years ago...probably about your age. Don't get me wrong....I am very special to quite a few people...as are you I am sure.

Don't be in such a big rush to define yourself at such a young age.

Because I don't want to. I don't think I have a gift for it.

I do. And I think you could get out of this funk that you're in by just employing your mind. Fertile minds like yours do not adjust well to stagnation; they subsist on challenges.

So stop moping around and do something! I hope you'll take up my suggestion and write a story. Just remember that countless pursuits lie before you - don't feel like the world is over now that piano has left center-stage.

I agree with Greg. Do something creative. The honest-apathetic attitude that sometimes comes to the fore when we're down is actually a good state of mind for writing. After all, it gave us existentialism. :)

But I already feel old.

You don't have a clue what old is!! And compared to some of our other members neither do I!! It is all relative. But...your feelings are certainly valid and need to be addressed.

Why don't you try to be brutally honest with someone and spit out your problem?

It might be embarassing and painful, but like ripping a bandage off...it is temporary. once it is out...you can work on fixing it.

To be brutally honest, I would need to describe circumstances that I'm much too close to. Besides, typing it out would take hours that I'm not ready to put into it yet. Maybe later. I think you've all had enough of me for a bit, anyway.

Small steps, Nak. You'll never be the best at something overnight.

Find something that you really enjoy and then try to become a little better at it. Challenge yourself. Don't worry about what the world around you is doing. Focus on yourself and what makes you happy.

You've gotten lots of nice touchy feely advice. Everyone means well. But that's not what you need. You need your Dad to bury his boot up your ass and make you grow up.

Maybe, but sometimes that parental approach just ostrisizes the child from the parent (could be a good or a bad thing). I've known plenty of people whose parents desperately wanted their children to become doctors or lawyers, but deep down the children knew that they didn't have the stomach for either of those professions.

Seems a popular notion that friends are always glad to help you through hard spots. That's true to a very limited extent, but in the real world, if you're a drag to be around, your ass gets dumped hard by everybody but your parents.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Okay. I've slept on it, and here's what went down:

I started this thread as another pitiful show for attention, but it took an unexpected turn. I'm glad it went the way it did. Now you all know what a phony I've been. I'm disgusted with myself. Larry's right - I'm a pathetic, cry-baby wimp. No more touchy feely advice. Sorry for wasting your time.

Nak,
Did you ever look into the volunteer work we were discussing before? You really do need to get out more and meet people. It's time you experience real life outside your circle. What about school? Did you decide about college?

How Great Thou Art.

I have the version of you playing it, that you sent me. Now listen to it. How would you NOT feel special when you listen to it? Do you know there are only a handful of people in the world who have ever played it so beautifully?!?
