More Britons believe in ghosts than in God, according to new research.

Some 68 per cent of those polled for a survey said they believed in the existence of ghosts and spirits - while only 55 per cent said they believed in the existence of a God.

Twenty-six per cent said they believed in UFOs, 19 per cent in reincarnation and four per cent in the Loch Ness Monster. And 12 per cent said they thought they had actually seen a ghost.

Just over three quarters (76 per cent) said that TV shows such as Most Haunted and films including The Blair Witch Project had played a part in convincing them that spooks and ghouls really exist.

The poll of 2,012 people was carried out in advance of Halloween by entertainment retailer ChoicesUK.

Spokesman David Rich said: "We want to believe in ghosts more than ever and are far more likely to take the word of a reality documentary or convincing movie than hearsay or ancient ghost stories.

"Seeing it with our own eyes helps feed our imagination and makes the unbelievable believable.''

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

...in advance of Halloween. I wonder by how much.

And of course, "by entertainment retailer ChoicesUK".

Um, yeah. I'm sure they know about things like clustered random sampling methods and statistical inference.

Chalk this one up with "murder rates increase with ice cream sales".

...makes no nevermind for me, though. My belief in the existance of goats is unaffected by poll results!

I've seen 'em with my own two eyes! And they're SMELLY!
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I don't see why it's shameful at all. At least ghosts tend to make themselves known from time to time. I can't recall the last time I heard anyone claim they'd actually seen God or even heard from him. :leaving:

Seen 'em with my own two eyes? Can't say I have, that's Thomas' department.

Although I find I'm having regular conversations with Upstairs Management every day. Want me to give Him a message for you?
