I have all my company files in a folder - they seem to have become read only - i can't save into the folder (except in a convoluted way), when I try and start a new file it says the folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a password..

I am thinking the settings to log in have been changed somehow.. I am the only authorized user and have never signed out.

I've restored the computer to 2 days back, and defragmented (overdue)

Any ideas?

Can you confirm what operating system you're using?

Typically on a Windows XP environment, you'll need to right-click on the folder containing the files from Explorer, select "Properties" and then select the "Security" tab on the resulting folder properties dialog window. You should then be able to change the permissions on the folder as necessary. I imagine you'll have to clear all the "Deny" options and tick all the "Allow" ones.

Hope that helps :)
