HOLY CARP!!!
|
I haven't been this scared since I was a child. Jose and I were in the house; the dogs were in the back yard. Jose was getting ready to take them for a walk. He put Yaya's harness on, but Kizzy's was almost chewed through. He took the harness inside to sew it and left both dogs in the backyard. A moment later we heard what sounded like two dogs screaming their heads off as they were being ripped apart by a lion. Kizzy got her jaw stuck under Yaya's harness. They both freaked, panicked, and struggled, which just made it worse. Yaya was being choked and Kizzy's jaw was being pulled. They were both screaming bloody murder. Jose and I ran out. All I saw was fur and teeth. I thought they were fighting and went for the hose. That turned out to be stupid, and didn't work - besides they *never* fight. Jose said Kizzy's jaw is stuck. I grabbed them. The screaming was ear piercing and made my heart race. We tried to separate them but the harness with a jaw stuck under it was too tight. I yelled for Jose to get a scissors. I used the scissors to cut the harness ignoring the even louder dog screams. It worked. We just held and comforted them as they shook and trembled. There was no blood and we are observing them very carefully; they seem physically okay but very shook up. We talked it over and reviewed how tight the harness was, just tight enough to get two fingers underneath, just as we were told. I consider it a freak accident but we are not going to leave them unsupervised with harnesses on ever again. I was really shaken up. I try to be so carefull in every part of my life. I don't like bad things happening. I love those dogs and couldn't forgive myself if anything happened to them. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
|
Kenny, Sorry you had to go through that.. I know it is heart rending to hear pets scream like that. Maybe make the harnesses just a skosh tighter so that can't happen? |

Aw Kenny...so sorry that happened. You are wise not to leave them with their harnesses on. My brother's bulldog got hung up on a swing set in his harness and did not make it. I'm glad your babies are ok. |

That kind of thing is scary. I'm sure they're ok, though. It almost always sounds way worse than it actually is. My cat once got his jaw caught under his own collar. Yikes. And then there was the time the kids tied a balloon to his tail. I thought he was going to kill himself running like a wildman before I could catch him. I just about killed the kids. Jodi

When I first read that, I somehow left out the "what sounded like" part. Glad to hear it sounds like they should be okay. |

My cat was playing in a large shopping bag when he put his head through the handles. He panicked and tore through the house like a wild thing dragging the shopping bag with me running after him trying to catch him. I finally waited behind a door until he ran through, scooped him up and freed hm. He shook himself off and went to his bed for a nap while I straightened out the path of destruction he left behind.

Those poor little pups! What a freaky thing. We came home once and the cats had been alone for hours and one of them had gotten his lower jaw caught in his collar. I felt so sorry for him, drooling all that time and getting a sore jaw. I think it is great that pet owners get to give animals a great life. Yaya and Kizzy have it good with you & Jose. |

Glad they're ok, Kenny. Must have been scary. (Maybe they know it's Hallowe'en and it was their version of Trick or Treat!)
