HOLY CARP!!!
What a wonderful word - kvell. Too bad most people probably don't know it. It means "swelling up with pride (for someone else)." It's a feeling that comes from deep in the belly. Or something like that.

Anyway, I'm kvelling.

Last year, I was captain of my high school's cross country running team. We sucked. We lost every single race (5K (3.1 miles) races).

But we had a few 9th graders on the team who hadn't really run before, but they showed a bit of potential (I think their fastest times for 5K races were around 21:00. I think that's probably about the average time for runners (9th-12th grades) on our team last year.)

I just heard news that today, at the regional race, one of these freshmen (well, now 10th graders) got under 19 minutes (beating my 12th grade time of 19:12), and another one got around 19:30.

HOLY CARP!!!
that's terrific, PJ! I'm sure your past leadership was important to their accomplishments this year. It's one of the most satisfying aspects of "passing the baton," watching what those who go after you will do. The fact that you're taking pleasure and pride in them makes me think you will one day make a very fine dad!

Cool!

I used to run cross country.

I sucked.

Hurdles and/or pole vault for me!

Golf was and still is my game though.

I'm speaking like Kenny.

How gay.

No jokes caroline!

Crap - you always rwrite that at the bottom just as my mind is starting to come up with come backs. :P

I used to do X counrty relatively competively but then i sortof just drifted away - still run for fun for myself though - great stress release to run in the country on a cold winter morning.

Badminton and tennis are my true sports though. :thumb: I love ball games. ;)

ZOOOOOM!
Skiing. Never had the endurance for XC, but downhill is still quite a workout.

Haven't picked it back up like I wanted to, and I can honestly say something's missing. . .

I ran, but also sucked, compartively.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
