I notice in the last few days that the world has taken this seriously and is reacting with appropriate disgust. Indeed, I see no less important a figure than Kofi Annan has canceled a trip to Tehran because of it. A significant diplomatic statement. Also, it seems any country having any international influence has condemned the statement in no uncertain terms.

I also saw a news report today that the Iranians have quietly asked the Europeans to reopen the negotiations on the nuclear issue.

It looks like diplomacy may actually be effective. Who'd a thunk it?

It also looks like Israel is not alone in this, contrary to some of the expectations expressed here.

Both are good things.

Rick - Ah yes, Chamberlain thought the same thing. The Russians and the Chinese want Iran to have nuclear weapons, as a counter to the US in the region. Europe would rather Iran not have them, but won't actually do anything. They will talk enough to make themselves feel good, and then do nothing. Iran openly says that the "negotiations" are only a stalling tactic to gain them time to get operational. What is little Checkoslovakia compared to peace in our time??

Again, the best predictor of genocide and war, is that a nation claims that it is preparing for genocide and war. It works every time.
