End of Month?

Considering the Left, more like that time of the month. They are most certainly gushing....

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

All based on a lie.

Should we forgive, overlook or incict him?

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Actually, the indictments are enough for me. Let them fight it out in court for a few years and have Bush pardon them in early 2009.

THe important thing is that political damage has been done to the whitehouse at no cost to the country.

No cost to the country? Who's paying for all this bollocks?

Edit - In the interests of fairness - the same people who paid for all the Clinton bollocks.

Let's see now......

A democrat with a reputation as a liar who wants to do in Bush claims his wife was an undercover agent, and the White House blew her cover.

Bush says if that happened, he wants to get to the bottom of it too, and appoints a Special Counsel, even though most people on both sides of the fence say the Special Counsel thing should be ended because they end up being nothing more than witch hunts.

Two months into the investigation, the Special Counsel has determined that no one was "outed", no law was broken, the woman wasn't a covert agent anyway, and even if she had been, there was *still* no law broken.

Instead of folding his tent and going home, he continues to investigate for a full 2 years. Not because any laws were broken in regard to the reason for his investigation, but to see if anyone would perjure themselves.

48 hours before the end of the 2 year investigation, one person makes a statement that contradicts an earlier statement, both times involving asking the man the same question twice but a year or so apart, requiring him to recall details from 3 or 4 years ago.

And you democrats are saying "Yay"????

Is politics always this nasty in the US? I'm not trying to be funny, here, I'm really curious. Obviously there's always a lot of conflict and it can get personal, but as a semi-outsider it does seem to be particularly vicious at the moment.

I don't mean the people in this thread, before someone applies the proverbial blowtorch, I mean the political process.

Depends on whether you're referring to staff members of the Administration or some "terrorist suspects" sent to Guantanamo Bay.

In either case, I ask no more than that the prosecutors and investigators play by the book. If the evidence warrant indictment, indict. No need to jump to conclusion on the isue of guilt just yet. The court system can furhter hash out if indeed the accused are guilty. Simple as that.

You might want to read General Pacepa's take on the situation --- Pacepa is a former soviet intelligence officer who defected. He argues that the west has been duped, and it does seem that he would know.

Jon:

How you can conclude that this can be done at no cost to the country is beyond me.

However, I appreciate the candor of your machiavellianism -- I am glad to know that for you it has nothing to do with justice, accuracy, truth, fairness, a man's good reputation, or any lofty ideal that has made America great.

I think it is utterly vicious of you -- that you would do anything to damage the office of the President. As a fellow American I find your position on this to be reprehensible.

But thank you for having the honesty to admit that, in effect, it is out of spite that you think this is a good thing.

the damage has been done.. to all of us, and particularly people like you jon, who have allowed yourself to manipulated by political operatives; their clever language deceiving you into believing that your core values, concerns are different from those Americans who are in the opposite political camp.. who now believe the political damage is good for the country and is of 'no cost'... who talk and think in soundbites and advertising copy.

(lurker mode off)

_ In November 1996, Henry G. Cisneros resigned from his position as President Clinton's housing secretary. In December 1997, he was indicted on 18 counts of conspiracy, obstruction and lying to the FBI. Cisneros pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in 1999 and was fined $10,000.

_ In December 1994, Mike Espy resigned from his position as Clinton's agriculture secretary. In August 1997, Espy was indicted on 39 corruption counts in allegations that he had received financial gifts from Tyson Foods Inc., one of the companies his department regulated.

_ In May 1993, White House travel office chief Billy R. Dale and his entire staff were fired by the Clinton administration. Dale was indicted in December 1994 on two counts of embezzlement and conversion after a grand jury said he pocketed up to $68,000 from media organizations traveling with the president.

Pretty soon we will be getting alien abduction stories too (maybe they took the WMD???). It's rather sad this is what the pro-war camp has to resort to.
