Any thoughts on R.A.B.?

My immediate thought was Regulus Black; I can't remember if we ever found out his middle name, but here's why: he was a Death Eater, but he got cold feet and tried to pull out. As Sirius said, "It's a lifetime of service or death" to Voldemort; you can't just pull out. So Voldemort had him killed, indirectly, as he was probably not important enough to be killed personally by V. Could Regulus have got wind of the plans and stolen the Horcrux as revenge/protection for his family against Voldemort/other? And if so, where is the Horcrux now? Grimmauld Place comes to mind. (Hopefully Mundungus hasn't stolen it, but there would be curses etc on it).

So what do you think?
Death is simply a shedding of the physical body like the butterfly shedding its cocoon. It is a transition to a higher state of consciousness where you continue to perceive, to understand, to laugh, and to be able to grow.

HOLY CARP!!!
I can't recall if I replied to this part of your original pm to me, Sarah, but I think that sounds like a very fair guess.

She has SO many loose ends to tie up!! I know it'll all come together, but I hope she doesn't leave any of these mysteries unsolved!

What about the locket they found in Grimmauld Place that they couldn't open in OOTP? Was it the very same locket that Voldemort was using as a horcrux? It makes sense and goes along perfectly with the theory that RAB is Regulus.

Hmmm...interesting theory jgoo! I'll be getting to OotP soonish, and I'll check out that possibility.
I am rereading CoS, and when Harry uses Floo Powder for the first time and ends up in Knockturn alley, he gets inside the big cupboard/wardrobe that is used in HBP (at least that's my assumption) and he looks at the necklace that appears in HBP as well. It makes me wonder what other little hints she's dropped that you don't see til much later. It also supports your theory quite nicely, because chances are she mentioned the locket in a previous book. I can get on board with that.

jgoo; I thought I could remember something about a locket and Grimmauld Place, but I couldn't remember it when I was writing the post above. I think if my theory is correct, yours would fit in quite nicely. Hmmm, but she's already said it will probably be another 2 years until the 7th book, argh!!

I think the Regulas theory is an excellent one. I also think he may still be alive. Remember how Dumbledore was telling Draco about how he could take him and his family in under protection? Fake their deaths, etc.....Perhaps this has been done in the past!
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.
