Speculation seems to be Edith Clement.

I can't help but think that's a smart choice on his part.

I don't really know anything about her decisions or her philosophical bent (except that I've seen her described as a conservative), but she was confirmed by a vote of 99-0 last time. It would be awfully hard for the Dems to argue that someone confirmed by that sort of vote last time is unqualified now.

I wonder if conservatives will be happy, though. If she was confirmed 99-0, is she conservative enough? And there are definitely some conservatives out there who are spoiling for a fight, and would be awfully disappointed by any nominee capable of getting broad support from both sides of the aisle.

We cross-posted. Mine was a minute or two behind because you didn't actually say anything. :sombrero:

Something weird is going on with timestamps. Seriously.

When I wrote the post, your post wasn't up. As soon as I posted, I saw yours. I checked the timestamps, at that time they were two minutes apart.

Now, of course, they are not.

I can't explain it ... the most likely explanation would be that I'm wrong, but I know I checked, and I'm usually not that forgetful.
