Larry: "I need to correct myself on something. Earlier I tried to differentiate between Jeffrey and a troll.

I take it back. There is little difference between Jeffrey and a troll. Ban them both."

No comment needed. I just wanted to make sure Larry didn't delete his post. :)

Eek, something's happened and quotes aren't working right. I am editing for proper attribution.

KB: I wonder if maybe there are other forums with different rules that would better suit?

gryphon: KB, you know I like you, I really do. But you don't get it. Not one little bit. You really don't. The only reason people are here--the only reason--is that they are friends from the Piano World forums. It's not like people were just searching random forums they could post to. 89 makes objectionable posts. TomK makes objectionable posts. Jeffrey makes objectionable posts. And now you are accusing Larry and his posse comprising of people like AlbertaCrude of blindly arguing for yhabpo being banned without any "intelligent" discussion.

KB: "Nobody seems capable of any genuine, intelligent discussion about the things they don't agree with."

gryphon: Are you blind, man? That is EXACTLY what's been happening! Whether jgoo bans yhabpo or not is up to him. This is his forum. He already approves what yhabpo's been posting. But don't you ever accuse others of not engaging in an intelligent discussion about the things they don't agree with, not ever! I don't know if you think I am part of Larry's posse or not. This is what I said in another thread: "I'd ban him because he is a troll. He posts provocative things to piss people off without defending his positions. I would think any right thinking person would not allow this. But then that's not what we have here, is it? What we have here is the internet forum equivalent of a school suspending an asthmatic student for carrying an inhaler in violation of a no-tolerance policy. No common sense. I guess that policy works well if you have a bunch of juvenile threads about Harry Potter, movies, and risqué jokes and quizzes. It doesn't work so well if you talk about actual issues."

KB: But put it to a vote for Pete's sake, and stop bitching about it.

gryphon: Is that what jgoo asked you to say? He wants us to vote on what he should do? Posted Image

Larry, I understand how you feel in regards to Ybahoo's threads. I myself think it is offensive, but KB is right. We have squabbled about this subject long enough. At some point, all of us are offended by what someone puts, but it is their right as it is our right to put out what we feel. But after we have done that, move on. Don't run it in the ground.

I mean, we aren't even talking about the subject of the thread. \

Gryphon,
"You know I like you I really do..."

*yawn*

say what you mean man... your posts are so full of sarcasm it hurts.

There is no intelligent discussion... go back to the thread, and every time the conflict comes up, either you or Larry use it as a springboard for a post about how dumb everyone else is, or how we don't have common sense... or how jgoo has no problem with yahoo's posts.

You even do it in your last post with this line:
Quote:

Is that what jgoo asked you to say? He wants us to vote on what he should do?

WHAT?!

If we were all here SOLELY because we were friends from pianoworld Gryphon, I would think that any other forum offering the same gathering place for the same reasons would have the same chance of survival.
clearly this is not the case.
People have 3 places they can go, and they come here. And not by a small margin.
Larry's Forum

Would you have us believe that this has nothing to do with the content, comfort level, or way the place is run, and has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that we all knew each other previously?

And if you truly believe that the banning of yahoo is entirely up to jgoo, then just stop. Stop making comments in each post about two weeks ago, stop making snide remarks about the intelligence of the other members here. If you think jgoo should hear your take on things, then tell him.
Otherwise I'd like to humbly offer you a plate of brie (that's a fancy cheese) to go with your whine.

Ok KB, then what *is* the reason?

They all yearn for the freedom of speech?
Everyone came here so they could read hate speech from a fanatical Arab?
Are you passing out cookies with each membership?

No, everyone landed here because it was the first one ready that looked like home to everyone. It continues to be the busiest because of that momentum. Kill that momentum and you'll kill the forum. Now you come along making snide little swipes, not able to think far enough in front of you to see that if I didn't care I would simply go promote my own site instead of contributing to this one. I'm trying to point out something that could kill the momentum of this forum. Apparently you aren't able to understand that.

Fine. As people get tired of having to wade through the gutter level insults of trolls, send them over to my forum, KB. They won't have to put up with this kind of shit there, and worthwhile posters won't get lumped into a pile and told to go somewhere else the way you just did to several folks.

We are of different minds.. but similar hearts.

I like that.

See, something good can come from a thread started by a jerk.

I think that as a community we are not really threatened by Yahoo.

Kenny: I agree with you (and Mik- very poetic!!!).

If ya'll just stop responding to him -- and DO NOT post to his threads -- his thread would soon be lost in cyber space and we would not have to keep seeing this "Was Jesus a Bastard" title.

This is a new thread for this topic. Please stop posting to the other and continue on this thread and we'll see how quickly the other one moves off of the first page.

IT (congrats on the wedding!.. )

It seems my post after you quoted it was interpreted to mean that I did not think Yappers was a threat to the NCR.

What my post stated was in response to one that said Yappers has brought us all closer together. The comment about similar hearts was meant to indicate we are ALREADY together, regardless of differing viewpoints. Anyone on here would help anyone else if they could.

My position on Yapper is we have already given him/her a fair trial. All that remains is to hang him/her.

I did say what I mean. I said *exactly* what I mean. What's more, I am stating plain fact and you are saying that's sarcasm. I like you. I really do. I have a lot of respect for you. Heck, I gave you two new Mozart CD's. :D But I have always posted exactly what I mean here. And I don't think you can find a single instance where I lied or misrepresented the truth. Or acted in a trollish behavior. Not one. Yhabpo's posts here *are* perfectly acceptable to jgoo.
Quote:

There is no intelligent discussion.
Jonathon, you are wrong. There has been intelligent discussion. Lots of it. Not by me, mind you. I simply posted my single opinion once: "I'd ban him because he is a troll. He posts provocative things to piss people off without defending his positions." I'd ban him for trollish behavior. But jgoo is fine with trollish behavior. It doesn't violate a naked woman, spread eagle photo prohibition or similar. Now others like Phykell and Larry and AlbertaCrude and Ivorythumper and Amanda and David Burton and Jeffrey (and more) have actually discussed this at length, over many threads. I'm surprised you never noticed it. Odd.

First of all, yes, I do think that the banning of yhabpo is entirely up to jgoo. (And why do you call him yahoo? Why are you being sarcastic and disrespectful?) I am telling jgoo what I think in my posts. Are you suggesting that I should make some sneaky, complaining, whining, secret PMs to him? No. I don't have to sneak around and post private PMs complaining about someone behind his back. And if you had actually read my posts you would have seen that I have *not* been complaining about yhabpo by and large. Save my single post about how I think he is a troll, I have stood up and said that he is comporting to jgoo's forum philosophy.

I have never criticized you, Jonathon. I don't know why you are so defensive.

What is so sad is my 13 year old sister is reading some of this and just said you all are acting like little children. Come on. Get over it. He is not being banned. If you all truly like each other, quick taking every little thing everyone says and quoting it in your thread and taking a shot. Let's talk about something interesting, like Harry Potter.

Yes, this place could survive very nicely simply talking about Harry Potter. Or the movies. Posted Image And I am serious.

But don't start complaining about debate about actual meaningful topics like religion and terrorism and politics and philosophy in front of your 13 year old sister when your most recent forum contribution is how your Dungeons and Dragons' character is finally getting sex.

I agree with you, Quirt. I've watched that thread grow to 5 pages and didn't open it because I could clearly see who started it. I finally looked at the last couple of pages after reading this thread.

I don't want to start banning people simply because they're offensive. I can very well ignore them. When you get in the mud to fight with the pig, only the pig enjoys it.

I wasn't going to get into this, but you know what the answer is. Fluff. Adolescent, non-controversial topics with no depth to them. It has less to do with personalities than with having to actually engage one's brain and discuss weighty topics. A lot of people simply don't want to have to think and back up their opinions with facts and actual documentation. And that is fine. This place is what it is. A nice, safe place to have fun. Some people won't go to WTF. Some people won't go to PF. And you know what, some people refuse to go to *any* of the three new ones (they've told me).

I'm not complaining about debating serious subjects, I'm complaining about the fact that all we are doing is slinging mud at each other. We aren't just stating what we think, we are too insulting the other person because they have a different opinion.

And I'm not actually having sex in front of my sister, kinda just said that to be goofy!

Thumpy: "Jeff wanted to start a discussion about why Catholics should not be allowed to immigrate or vote because they are clearly deficient as human beings. Tongue in cheek, perhaps, though I wouldn't trust him if he actually had the power to do so. So, just bitch slap him and get on with your life."

Wow.  You don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot, now do you?  You wondered why Kenny didn't ever reply to your proposal to give him second-class citizenship.  You actually expected him to reply to you in a reasoned, factual manner.  So all I did was make a "modest proposal" and used all the arguments you generally give for treating gays as second-class citizens (they are disordered, evil, become gay due to sexual abuse, etc), and applied them to Catholics.  Then you got all huffy.  Seems you don't want to calmly and factually defend the rights of Catholics to vote, you just want to "bitch-slap" such people.  Well, same thing will happen when you try to give gays second-class citizenship, and then rationalize your bigotry with fancy references.

Jeff: Not thin skinned, just not into your pseudo-intellectual gamesmanship. I already posted as to why the argument is not a good analogy, and you did capitulate to some degree on your level of intolerance. I understood your point, but it fails to persuade since I am not denying anyone any human rights -- that is why I immediately challenged you to show why gay marriage was a human right and all you did was *yawn*.

So if that was your level of debate, there was little point continuing.

Nothing huffy about it, Jeff -- you are projecting a victory where there is none. You have yet to show anything about why homosexuality is not intrinsically disordered. You could have started by dismantling the notion of an order to nature, or an order to the human person, or even arguing that there is a meta-order that homosexuals have arrived at that transcends complimentary procreative sexuality, or any number of other tacks. But you haven't offered anything -- so it is rather presumptuous on your part to think you know why I responded as I did.
The dogma lives loudly within me.
